Chicago Spotters - Advice Please

Thu Oct 07, 2010 3:55 pm

Hi all,

I will be staying only 2 days at a hotel just off the approach to RWY 32, Mannlein and W Irving Park. Where can I get to without a car, where I can get photos during some down time? Thanks a lot.

You can go west a bit to Irving park and Seymour ave where you can shoot arrivals on 4R or 22L departures. Alternatively you can go north a bit to Mannheim and Lawrence to the aerospace center parking lot where you can shoot landings on 28.

As of today , following by Ivan's advice you can go at Scott st (O'hare aerospace center) on USG parking lot area and you got arrivals on 28. Mostly heavies , all cargo and all traffic from S-W and S of approach pattern.
On Seymour and Irving Pk you got outbound traffic but heaviest a/c can be B767. Sometimes GTI or CKS can use this rwy when departing empty.
I'll be tomorrow afternoon at 28 so you can join me. There will be propably more local spotters.
Best regards , Gabriel

Thanks guys,

That was a great location. I only spent an hour there, around 3:30 today, and only got to see domestic arivals, no international carriers at that time, I guess. But the location was perfect. Now let's see if any of my shots make it here.

I didn't see you? I left spot about 3.50 , I was there about 2 hours to catch UPS MD11. There was a lot of peoples , some were staying on Scott st , we were at parking lot (I was at red honda accord , Ron was at silver charger parked at USG building wall and Roger w/o car).We took also USAir B757 that is rare here.
Hope you'll back some day...
Best Regards ,
Gabriel

I saw a few folks looking at the airplanes, but did not see anyone with a camera until one fellow put his gear in a (silver?) SUV parked along Scott and left. I like Chicago, so I'll be back.
