MCO Spotting.

Mon Dec 27, 2010 3:59 am

Hello all,

Anyone discovered any good/legal spotting places at MCO? The terminal top parking garage level 11 is not really working for me. Any way to get closer?

I tried the Red lot also known as the cellphone lot, it's ok, but...

Cargo Rd where it dead ends seems ok for rwy 17L. Any other good places?

Yeah but you gotta jump out, snap away, and drive off. If you make a left at the end of cargo road between 17L & R, after you exit the toll booth there is a pull off area that's good for 17L arrivals, if they're landing that way.

Looks like they were using 35/36 all day but just switched, so maybe you'll get lucky tomorrow.

Get dropped off at the airport, then walk across to the parking garage. I've never shot up there on top of the parking garage, so I can't really give you anymore info. According to MCO's site...

Where are the best places for aircraft spotting?
On completion of a "Use of Facilities Form", aircraft spotting/photography is permitted on Level 9 of the Terminal Top Parking Garage, which provides a panoramic view of most of the airfield and airside terminal buildings. The form must be completed in person, and accompanied by a valid photo I.D., between the hours of 8:00 am and 5:00 pm, Monday to Friday (excluding public holidays), at the Public Affairs office, located on the 3rd level of the Main Terminal in the Aviation Authority Executive Offices (to the left of the East Security Checkpoint for Gates 60-129).

Actually, your best bet is to drive 90 minutes SW down to TPA where spotting is very accessible. It even tells you the steps for contacting the airport on its website. On Friday, I had called the day before to photograph at a very forbidden location. But since I had permission to be there, I had no problems, none of that looking over shoulder feeling, that you will definately have at MCO. 905 of the traffic you see at MCO, you'll see at TPA

With the more accessible east runway handling all commercial flights thru Wednesday, now's the perfect time.
