Hi , in my opinion if you have the budget then get a 50D if you still find one , you must always work to your budget and go from there , plenty of comparison sites on the internet.

here is a comparison i found it really depends on the usage to be honest, the 550d has advantages over the 50d and the 50d has advantages over the 550d :

good hunting

thanks

Thanks Virgin,
I will use it for sport events, travelling, nature and animals, family evenings and obviously for spotting.
550d is a new model however 50d is still popular and price is hire than 550d. I asume that 50d has more capability to perform + stronger body + better matrix.50d is still available in some shops. by the way, today I saw 40d which is very rare to see these days.
Would you agree if I get L class lens or any better glass to my owened 550d it will give me better result? I am not happy with quality which my 550d gives me with canon 28-135mm IS USM. Noise and unsharp images for example. I've checked all settings in camera and all seems OK. Not sure about setting for "S" standart position of shooting. Do you know?

Yerbol,

I use a 50D. For me, the better built quality, faster operation and slightly larger body make it the better choice. Megapixels aren't everything! I've been using a 50D for 2 years and have no issues with it, it's a great camera. With any high resolution sensor though, you need good quality lenses on the front otherwise you won't get the best from the sensor. There's no point in having a 50D then putting cheap glass on the front, same withthe 550D really. You need to factor that in to any camera purchase with high resolution sensors, as we've discussed on your other topics. If money is limited (which it always is!), I would spend less on the body and more on the lens. A cheaper body with good glass will often give better results than an expensive body and cheap glass. For sports / action / wildlife as you want, the extra frame rate of the 50D will come in useful. However, you'll need a good budget for lenses as we've discussed on several of your other threads.

Hello again my friend Darren, and thank you for advise.
I hope my 550D is OK and all I need is to get a better lens.
I saw a lot of photos here taken with 550D and they were pretty good quality so I asume that it can give a good result with good glass.

The 550D is more than a good camera, it's excellent. With the right lens and with the correct technique, it's more than capable of capturing excellent photos. A good camera / lens will aid with quality, but it's the person using it that creates the photo.
