Madrid: Mound At Barajas Under Threat?

Wed Feb 09, 2011 1:33 pm

Hi all,

Been looking at flights to MAD lately as it's one of my favourite European airports. Also been keeping myself updated as to what goes in there, so I've obviously been looking at recent images here. It seems that, at the mound at Barajas, they've chopped the awkward tree down that hindered photographs as it appears to be absent in recent photo's. It was always hard to get heavies from this spot (though of course you could climb the higher mound further back) due to the blue building right side and the tree on the left. The road signs made it that bit more difficult, however if this tree has gone it should now be a doddle!

The downside to this is why AENA (Spanish airports authority) would cut down such a tree. I doubt it would be to appease photographers! Common sense tells me that they must be using the land to build something, which would no doubt render the spot pretty useless. Anyone know the situation? Should I go sooner rather than later?

Cheers,

Karl

If I'm right, Karl, I suppose that you referred to Paracuellos tunnel point. At that point everything it's the same as always. The changes are in the access, put some rail fenders in the road (I don't know the proper name in english, we say "quita miedos") so you have to jump a little to avoid them, nothing complicated.
Some people is spotting up in the little mount back, you have more space vision and with a 300mm lens it's adequate, I use a 200mm and it would be better the 300mm, but still is right.
Cheers,

I don't think so.
I think that there will not actuations in that point in a short time.
Where there is some changes is in the spotting point in 33R/18L but nothing else.
