That photo is unlevel, the highlights are blown, and the motive is questionable.

Yeah, the colour looks kind of strange too...

Nice ad

Hmyeah... That's possible too, it's what indoctrinated A.net photographers think.
I like the thought in the Canon ad better.

Any photographer should see that photo as low contrast with blown highlights. That's just common sense.

Cool ad though.

Reminds me of an old Nikon School ad in the Sept. 1993 NatGeo that had the famous picture of Nessie with the caption: "Some people see a monster. We see improper metering, poor lens selection, and a total lack of composition." - And, sadly (depending on how one looks at it), both this and the Canon ad are how I have begun to think over the past year or so

Oh, please. You really think Canon didn't realise they had low contrast, over blown highlights, and poor levelling.

Canon people. Canon.

Can someone explain the caption to me? Is it because f/8 and 1/250s is the ideal setting to shoot in that setting?

I don't see anything wrong with that photo. The photo looks how the photographer visualized it.

No, I think it's the photographer visualising a photograph rather than seeing his girlfriend in front of him.

Tbh, I can't see much wrong with it either given the kind of shot it is and the light it's taken in. Yes, it's lacking contrast but that's shot into the Sun, by default there's going to be minimum contrast anyway. Level? What you levelling it against? Hotspots? Again, it's into Sun. That's gotta be the hottest spot going, no?! 'Spose it just goes to show not everyone does it the A.net way....
Having said that it's a crap picture haha.

As long as we're delving into the minds of photographers, I wonder what the photographers at Playboy, Penthouse, et. al. are thinking about while they work with their subjects?

Keeping in line with the starting post - probably something like "36D at 1/69"

Something like this - I stand in front of beautiful and voluptous nude women and think - F5.6 at 1/200....

Keen enthusiasts think 'f8 at 1/250'

Wannabes think 'I need a new lens'

Pixel peepers think 'that sun is too orange'

Grumpy old men (like me) say 'OK, we've seen the damn sunset, now can we go to the pub - and be careful you don't drop my camera bag!'

Cheers,

Colin
