How To Reduce Grain/noise On PanasonicLumix FZ100?

Tue Jun 07, 2011 9:12 am

I have noticed that there is an aweful lot of grain and noise in the photos I take with my Panasonic Lumix FZ100, if the lighting condition is not 100%. I know I should expect some grain, but it looks a bit too much to me.

On my previous Lumix camera, the FZ18, I experienced a similar problem. However on the camera before that, the FZ20, it was possible to reduce the noise/grain by accessing a setting in the menu. This seemed to work nicely on the FZ20, but as far as I can see, there is no such option on the FZ100.

Can anyone help?

I have the FZ35, so assuming the menus are the same, go to the main menu in pic taking mode, scroll down to "Pict.Adj." and set "Noise Reduction" to +2. I've found this gets rid of grain pretty well without sacrificing quality or sharpness, though obviously when used with lower ISO settings like I prefer, it will necessitate lower shutter speeds.

Overall, I'm still learning the camera (I've only owned it for about 3 weeks), but I've found it helps noticably, because I've had the problem of high grain with my shots too.

I believe that is how I managed to reduce the noise on the FZ20, but there is no such setting on the FZ100, as far as I can see. Thanks for the tip anyway.
