An 18-55mm will probably be limited to ground shots I think. The Red Arrows and the Frecce Tricolori should fill the frame at some point with 55mm maybe?
I can talk about Frecce Tricolori only... by the time I'm Italian, I've had the chance to see Frecce Tricolori several times.
But, to be honest, most of the time I used my 70-200 to take pictures so, maybe, the comparison wouldn't be so trustable... but I have to say that during some "smoky passages" I used the tele at its minimum focal (70mm).

This one was taken at 70mm, with a small crop... so, this can give you the idea of what you're going to cope with.
But I was close to the display line...
If you won't be able to take a shot like this, you should get the focal lower and try to get a good composition!
For example: Frecce Tricolori will perform a smoky final passage like the one posted above. But the latter is the "close" perspective... but you can either capture the whole scene.
I mean: they'll pass over you from left to right (usually they do this way), thus creating a sort of three-coloured curve in the sky. Then, wait that they pass over you and get a little more on the right, and take a shot, then!
I don't know if it will be something acceptable for this site, but it will be a very good picture to keep in your personal archive!!!
I told you this just to give you an idea for taking good shots with you current equipment... and, of course, this way could be done with other display teams, on condition that smokes make a good contrast with the sky!
Finally... HAVE FUN!!!!!
