SXM Arrivals Question

Tue Oct 25, 2011 2:18 am

Hey guys,

I did a search on this but do not believe I found anything for the time period I'm looking into...

So over my Thanksgiving break my dad and I are planning to visit SXM via JetBlue (my first time there!):

JFK-SXM (arrive 4:20pm), spend the night, and then fly back SXM-JFK departing at 5:20pm.

In that time period, does anyone know what planes usually come in to SXM? Like would I be seeing the big heavies like the KLM 744, Air France 340, etc? Or just little intra-island stuff? This will be mid-November (just before Thanksgiving).

Thanks!

Nick

PS: In exchange, here's a video of my dad flying into SXM 2 years ago. Camera was placed on the dashboard, hence why it kind of fell to the side after the nosewheel touched down: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lyQvO5TKU1c
(JetBlue A320 JFK-SXM)

PPS: I've been on airliners.net for probably about 10 years (I'm 18...do the math!! I've grown up with this site!!) and have even been a member for quite some time as well but this is my first post in recent years

You don't mention what day you will be there, but Air France comes in the mid afternoon. KLM comes on only 2-3 days, and if I remember right it is later (low light). Air Caraibes and Corsair also come in the early afternoon, but not everyday.

Lots of US stuff comes in early afternoon, don't push your check-in, it can take 2 hours to clear security when it is busy.

Sorry about that...

I'll probably arrive on Sunday and then leave Monday or arrive Monday and leave Tuesday.

I was going to give you this:

http://www.pjiae.com/pdfs/timetable.pdf

...but annoyingly it looks like it's not been updated to reflect the current season.

Then there is also this:

http://www.sxmarrivaltimes.com/

Hopefully that will give you an idea of what might be about. Sunday has usually been quite a productive day but arriving late in the day might mean you miss most of the heavy arrivals.

How does SXM traffic on Saturday compare to Sunday? Someone above mentioned Sunday is the busiest, but how far behind is Saturday? So like if I were to spend the entire day Saturday INSTEAD of Sunday, would I miss much?

Thanks!

Both saturday and sunday have been very good historically. Saturday tends to see alot of the US carriers coming in so it would also be a good day to stay there. What you probably wouldn't see which comes in on sunday is KLM and I think Corsair with the 747s. So basically saturday you will see plenty of traffic but it will be smaller mid size aircraft eg 757/737/320 etc.

If you can find the phone number for the Sunset Bar and Grill, they always put up the scheduled arrivals for the day on a chalkboard outside the bar. ...But they only look them up the day of, so not sure how much that will help you.

I'd recommend staying more than one day if you can swing it because as has been mentioned, many of the good flights do not come in every day.
Still, if you don't see everything, that just gives you an excuse to go back!
