A friend said to me that some years ago the spotting at DXB was illegal, now it's also illegal or the law was changed?

I cannot tell you if it is illegal, however, having worked, lived and spotted there, I would advise treating it as though it were. I know people who have been arrested for taking photos near DXB. They've always been released after several hours of being held at the police station and being made to sign a document (which is in Arabic!) I don't know anyone who's had their photos deleted or gear confiscated.

I would strongly recommend discretion at all times. I lived there for 9 months and never had any trouble with the police, so it is possible. A quick look at how many photos from DXB are in the database will tell you that plenty of photographers manage to do it without getting into trouble (and not all of them are taken during the air show!)

Well there might be a hotel with a great view of DXB. Ask Emirates if they can get you a hotel with a view of the airport! And I would know cause I went there this summer myself!

Happy Spotting and Holidays!

Thank you scbriml! I know that there are a lot of photos in database about DXB but I want to be sure!

To ArospcAirAvitin: Hi, I will be a host of my uncle so I will not go in a hotel.

I agree with eggohoek with the coordinates. If you find it is legal to spot, be sure to catch the UA 777 arrivals (which is most likely at night.)

It seems more and more pics keep coming in the DB recently.

And most of them seem to be taken outside the Dubai Airshow "window".

There must be new spots... Sam Chui seems to shot regulary in DXB, so he should be able to help us.

Most of these are taken from the EK HQ parking garage, which is not really an official spot either, and I guess it depends on your luck how long you can stay there. However, you're less likely to run into problems with police there but rather with their own security.

My Swiss spotter friend wrote me his impessions about DXB:

"Last holiday in Dubai was interesting. I made just some spotting from the roof of a hotel but the planes where to high for me  After about one hour of spotting, security staff of the hotel asked me to stop taking pictures !"

DXB means very good airplanes, but always need to watch police and security.
Our second problem was a civil man, who called the police.
Policemen don't ask anything about you, take away your passport and take to the policestation.

I´ve spent a few days in Abu Dhabi and Dubai. It´s a fascinating country (XV century wirh skyscrapers and iPhones) and I loved it a lot. A guide (who drove) accompanied me everywhere, because it´s a different society and a western citizen must be careful.

I think you must contact persons who spot there to know what you can do and how to do it.
