Spotting At St.Maarten

Tue Feb 21, 2012 6:53 pm

Yes, I have already searched and read the topics about spotting at St.Maarten, BUT they all mention Maho Beach, and that will also be where I will take the majority of my shots from when I go there in May. Are there any other places around the airport where I can take "alternative" spotting shots?
Like this one http://cdn-www.airliners.net/aviation-photos/photos/9/3/6/2060639.jpg Where is that taken from?
Has anyone made a KMZ file for google earth with spots around the airport, then I wiould really lie a copy.

greetings from Denmark.

The photo that you have posted looks as though it has been taken from the new apartment/condo block that is built/being built at the moment. Not really a publically accessible spotting location and where there is construction work going on there it is guarded when no work is going on as it's pretty dangerous. My friend went to check it out when I was there recently and came back saying it's a no go, so go venture at your own risk.
In addition, if you are going in May, then this spot will be pretty backlit for photography, only useable very first thing in the morning before the sun swings over, and before the heavies arrive. You will need to be primarily on the other side of the beach shooting towards the Sunset Beach Bar, with the Sonesta behind you.

These were taken from the Mary's Boon Hotel - a very nice place to stay.

Looks like Mary's Boon Hotel might be a good alternative to spot from, but I guess you have to be a guest at the hotel to get these pictures?
On the picture with the Amerijet 727 there's lot of buildings on the opposite side of the airport, are there any where you can stand without shooting through the fence, and how is security regarding spotters?
