There are some earth mounds adjacent to the new car park that allow elevated views over the fence line. They were still there a couple of weeks ago. Approach shots are no problem, you just have to be careful with the light poles but there's plenty of gaps to get the shots you want. Line-up shots are still possible but you get the top of the fence in for side-ons from some spots. It's certainly shootable though.

I've never had a problem although if they are working at the time, you may be moved from the mounds. Don't look at it as hassle, they're only doing their job and don't forget you're on mounds that you shouldn't be on. There's a mutual respect. As long as you aren't in the way, you'll be fine.

Okay, an update.....

23L/05R is now open again until 10:30.

The gravel mounds in Joe's field have now unfortunately been fenced off (only a temporary effort), but spots for good photos still exist. The large soil/clay mound at the back of the field (to the right of the footpath) is accessible, and there's also a small gravel mound at the very end of the footpath, where it meets the new car park.

Line-up shots are still possible but only from the large mound.

Sorry, I didn't take any line-ups when I was last there a few days ago, but I did take these landers...

Line-ups from the large soil/clay mound at the back of the field are pretty much the same as they were from the gravel mounds closer to the runway, except that a ittle bit of the tops of those mounds creeps into the bottom of the frame. Not exactly a disaster.

The field was elevated before the new car park was built giving you enough height over the fence to take line up shots.

I bet if you go on a sunday you could probably sneak up on to the mounds as no one would be around :p

You'd have to get past the fence first!

Plus, this would be a fine way to ruin relations between local enthusiasts and the airport, so please don't. The current measures are almost certainly only temporary, and we may well be surprised with what we get left with.

We don't want the whole thing being ruined ...
