Nellis AFB Photography

Wed Mar 28, 2012 10:49 pm

Recently, there are many great pictures from Nellis AFB, covering redflag 2012, apparently these pictures were taken inside the Nellis AFB just besides the runways. I just wondering how photographers get inside the base? some special pass? I remember reading that even spotting on the base side of Las Vegas Blvd gets some attention from base guards and often being chased away. Thanks for your input.

Nellis often hosts a media day when there is a Red Flag exercise during which time accredited photographers can take pictures from inside with an escort. Photographers must be accredited by a major media outlet in order to apply. If I remember correctly there were about 30 of us out there during this last Red Flag two weeks ago. Photographing from outside should never get you in trouble unless you are clearly violating something. Usually during a Red Flag there are a ton of photographers on Las Vegas Blvd or Cheyenne all day long with no problems, and base ops is well aware of this.
