What focal lengths and what do you define as cheap?

You'll probably want to look at the Canon 55-250mm IS

Indeed - it's about as cheap as you can get, and it's decent out to around 200mm. Beyond that it's quite soft.

You could also look for a used lens. In your price and focal length ranges, you might be able to find a used 70-300 IS USM. That's a step up from the 55-250, and will get you out to about 250mm before it gets soft.
I'm watching Jeopardy. The category is worst Madonna songs. "This one from 1987 is terrible".

The sigma doesn't have image stabilization.

I had the canon 55-250 when I started, it was pretty good for the price. I've since been disappointed with every sigma I've had, but this is my personal experience with the brand.

Remember you get what you pay for, but you gotta start somewhere. The Canon 55-250IS would probably be a better route. There is another aviation database site you can search by lens type, I'd look that over.

Let me speak from experience. I did the same thing you're doing when I first got a DSLR. Got the same lens, too! It was fine for a couple months but in a short time, I was very unhappy with the lens. Like Dazed767 said, you get what you pay for. I'd avoid that Sigma lens if you can. You'd be better off saving up your money and getting something higher quality that will make you happier. But easier said than done, I know.

I agree too....I have boxes and boxes full of "cheap" lenses that didn't make me happy....In the end, it just makes the good lenses that much more expensive. I would just forget about the cheap glass and spend a bit more...which in the long run will be cheaper. I will be selling a non-IS Canon 70-200mm f2.8 if you are interested. I think my last 1000-1500 photos on here were taken with that lens.
I'd rather be flying.
