Sigma 70-200mm F/2.8 EX DG HSM

Mon May 07, 2012 10:54 pm

Hey guys. Im looking to upgrade my current lens which is a 55-300 VR lens. I am currently shooting with a D3100 which is fine but i would like to go to a 2.8 lens. has anyone used this lens? Is it sharp? Can it focus quickly? How does it perform generally? another question is what is the difference between the 1st and sec on version? will they bothe focus on my D3100?

Yes, it is quite sharp and quick to focus. I've owned one since 2002 - you can't go wrong with one.

I believe the "DG" means nothing, it will work on a full-frame or APS sized sensor (like your 3100).

I have been using this one for 9 years, it's a great lens, very sharp and still in top condition...not sure which version I have, but it is the non macro.
From what I have heard and read, I do not think I would be as pleased with the macro version...unless I needed the macro capability I suppose?!  thumbsup

Quoting clickhappy (Reply 1):

"DG" means that the lens is designed for full frame digital SLR's. However it can be used on 35mm film cameras. Of course it can be used on cropped sensor/APS-C digital SLR's. Sigma "DC" lenses can only be used on cropped sensor DSLR (although it can be mounted on full frame DSLR's).
