Some 1942 4x5 Kodachromes

Fri Jun 01, 2012 5:02 am

I saw this batch of photos posted on another forum:

http://pavelkosenko.wordpress.com/2012/03/28/4x5-kodachromes/

The quality shouldn't be any surprise - so crisp and detailed. Enjoy these wonderful 1942 photos, most of them aviation related in some form or another.

Those are absolutely stunning images, go to the original website where they are posted, there are many more. It makes me ashamed when I compare those to my pictures...you can clearly see that those are not just common snapshots, there is an experienced photographer with deep knowledge of his equipment and technique and a great eye, a real artist..

Many thanks for posting these Chris!

Cheers,
Andres

Wow - fantastic images. Thanks Chris, makes me want to shoot some slide film this weekend. The use of light and the absolutely spot on exposure is evident - you can't fix a transparency in post processing.

I also wish we could have our current workforce be nearly as dedicated and productive as in the mid 1940's....

I'm dedicated!   (ducks).

I just love the look of these non-digital images. It doesn't have this too perfect look of digital - if you know what I mean. It's hard to find the words for it. The women working on installing the engine in that plane is probably my favourite because of the way the light was used. The focus is on them and the engine, and nothing else. The dark background helps that. This kind of photography interests me a lot, as it's what I do at work.

Thanks! Some lovely images there. I must admit, I nearly spat my coffee out reading one of the image captions. We wouldn't be allowed to write one like that today.
