Great Prices On SD & CF Cards

Sat Aug 18, 2012 7:44 am

I have been shopping around for an external hard drive recently, and I found a place that sells all kings of media; but they don't advertise their prices in their on-line adds; so I emailed them and listed the things I was interested in; a 1 or 2 TB LaCie external HD, and 16 and 32 GB class 10 Sandisc Extreme Pro SDHC cards; I received their return email today:

The LaCie drive are a little "pricey", but their prices on SD cards sounds quite good to me, although I haven't purchased any for several months now, and all media keeps coming down in price; the prices quoted for the two cards I enquired about were as follows;

Sandisc Extreme Pro, Class 10 SDHC 16 GB..........$ 25.34 ( U.S.D. )
Sandisc Extreme Pro, Class 10 SDHC 32 GB..........$ 47.38 ( U.S.D. )

Two things..........does anyone know of any current prices better than this ?

Or if it sounds good, and if anyone is interested in the source, post a reply and I will either post a link to the vendor, or type in their name and info.

Those prices are about 30-40% below the regular price for these cards, which would make me EXTREMELY suspicious that they are counterfeit cards. Fake SanDisk cards are very common and I usually go to quite some length to only buy from reputable sources.

PS: I don't know if it was just a typo, but if they are advertised as Sandisc (and not SanDisk) it would be an even greater giveaway that those are fakes.

Thank you Steve ! It was just sloppy typing on my part............I can assure you it's a reliable source; That's the reason they can't advertise their prices on their advert...........they require you to either call or email them to receive a quote; they want to tell you directly what their price is, so everyone else selling media won't be giving them grief.

I found them by doing a search on Amazon for "computer external hard drives"

The prices they quoted me on a LaCie external hard drive were somewhat higher than I saw at a local Best Buy in Terre Haute; but it was a much higher end drive than the one I was looking at in the store; there are sp many models numbers that it can be difficult to compare prices unless the model numbers are the same.

Funny enough, Amazon's Marketplace is one of the area's I avoid for CF cards (unless it is sold specifically by Amazon). You would think Amazon would protect its users against shady third party venders, but they rarely do. Just check the feedback section for the product/vendor and you will see what others have experienced. Or do a Google search for "Amazon fake SanDisk SD cards".

Not saying they are counterfeit, just suggesting to be very vigilant. Especially if the price is substantially lower than regular retail.

Steve;

I spent some time looking at prices for external HD's on this vendor's website today;

www.Media Distributors.com

If they're a scam, they must be a pretty big one..........they have stores in about 8 major cities

if you require any SD card or any flash memory, I recommend watching something like woot.com or checking out MicroCenter. They have stores in several states and they have sometimes the best prices on SD Cards:

32GB Class 10 SD Card $19.99:

I've found that with memory, you get what you pay for. Many MicroCenter media I purchased have sustained critical failures (i.e. corruption etc) within weeks of the purchase.

I shoot with a variety of cards in my DSLR and HD Camera, never had any failures on the MicroCenter branded cards at any time in over 8 years of use. I have had bad luck with some of the cheaper cards for sure, but not a lot of failures.
