I use Canon's default filenames and folders, basically. So my filenames are all "IMG_XXXX" and my folders are all by date, named "YYYY_MM_DD".
My file structure within the Canon default folders goes something like this (not all these folders appear on every date):
So the RAW files are in "YYYY_MM_DD". The RAW-edited full-size JPEGS are in "RAW" and "HDR". JPEG-edited full-size JPEGS are in "Smugmug" (since that's where those typically go). And JPEG-edited and resized JPEGS are in "Photoshop".
There are exceptions, and there are additional folders sometimes too (sometimes I have a "Watermarked" folder within the "Photoshop" folder, for example).
It's not a perfect system, but I'm WAY too lazy to rename every file based on airline/reg/location or whatever. And even finding a photo isn't that hard; uploading to Smugmug is actually the easiest way I keep track of photos, since I have them sorted on there by airplane type and airline at a minimum.
As far as where I store everything, it's a constant battle these days to clear space on my computer, so I've been transferring all my RAW files to an external HD
. I should probably get a 2nd one as well.
I'm watching Jeopardy. The category is worst Madonna songs. "This one from 1987 is terrible".
