DUS Railway Terrace Closing?

Wed Oct 17, 2012 10:53 am

Question - is there any truth to the rumour that the Terrace at the Railway Station at the Eastern end of the airfield is likely to close at the end of the year? Please no speculative answers!

Where did you get that from? Both observation decks will stay open (except for snowy days).

It was taken from a mailing list. The relevant post is reproduced here:

"Whilst talking to a Dutch spotter, he was saying that local rumour is that
the viewing deck at the station will close at the end of the year as it's
costing too much".

So the million Euro question is, is there any validity in this or is just a rumour?

Not heard the rumour. But for what it's worth, in winter the observation deck closes quite often if there is ice or snow on the deck. Maybe that's what he meant?

I live close to DUS and I am regularly at the railway station and nobody had made any comment about the closure. So as said before it is because of many days during winter time it will be closed due to snow and ice.

It is very likely that it will close at or around the end of the year, since there is usually snow and ice at that time.
I hope I have answered the question.

How much can it possibly cost to run?! I don't remember any facilities that were specifically for the viewing deck when I went there a couple of years ago!

Fingers crossed is it only the temporary closure people are speaking of.

The payroll cost of supplying the security is probably the main running cost.
