Terminal Spotting At Chicago O'Hare?

Sun Nov 04, 2012 11:54 pm

Ok so I have a nearly 3 hour layover at ORD on March 30, 2013. Any good places in the terminals to photograph airplanes?I will be flying United if that helps. Also how long would it take me to get from the UA gates to the international terminal?

Thanks,
Alex

I'm not sure, but I think going to the international terminal would require you to go through security again. Going there would probably take about 15-20 minutes though with the train and everything. Also, the international terminal has fewer good spots to take pics from what I remember.

I recall the UA terminal (satellite part) to not be great for photos.. There aren't that many opportunities to see the bulk of the traffic as most of the movements around the UA terminal seemed to be all UA. I thought that Terminal 3 (AA) was better for photography.
It's all about the destination AND the journey.

T5 (Int'l) is good spotting place but only after security check before boarding. There are huge windows and great view of part of the airport but is not accessible for visitors.
United T1 has also good views but not so amazing like T5.
You can try 5-stories parking lot but I'm not sure about security. I used this spot occasionally just for a while to get something hard to spot outside of the airport.

Terminal 5 is restricted to only those passengers holding a boarding pass for a flight departing from that terminal.

Try the end of Concourse L in the afternoon. Hopefully there will not be a lot of equipment parked close to the building, which can really clutter up a photo.

The food court in Concourse C is okay in the morning.

I've also been able to take photos in the past from Concourse E facing the United terminals.

When I was at ORD 3 weeks ago, the terminal windows (including T5) were very, very dirty!

Well I will be there in the morning on the way there and late afternoon on the way back.
