Spotting At CHS

Thu May 16, 2013 6:56 pm

Hello,
This is my first post in the photography forums so bear with me.
In about a month, I will be going to Charleston, SC for a vacation and I want to try to go spotting at CHS. Is there any official places for spotting or any good locations for spotting where law enforcement won't bother me?

Thanks in advance,

The main runway 15/33 is currently closed and will most likely still be closed when you visit CHS. All traffic now uses 3/21. If you want to shoot at CHS, I'd recommend showing up in the morning to shoot 21 departures/3 arrivals from the Rental Car Parking lot on the west side of the terminal in the MORNING. There is currently terminal construction on the west side of the terminal, but I'm sure if you parked in long term and walked over to the rental car lot, you can get around the construction. Pull up google maps of CHS and you'll see the 3 trees between rental car lot and terminal ramp where WN parks. That's where I'd go to shoot movements at CHS.

I can't say anything about the Boeing / AFB side of the airport. My guess is that it's completely locked down and you'll be arrested if you even look at either facility.

Have fun at CHS! Plenty of Heavy C17s to snap and occasional Dreamlifters going between CHS and SEA.
