Upload: File Too Big

Fri Jul 12, 2013 8:55 pm

Hey guys tried to upload that picture it is unfortunately to big..
what now? I don't want to resize it or loose any quality by saving it differently.  http://abload.de/image.php?img=img_7183fracf.jpg

You have to do one or the other to get it below the 1MB limit. I would suggest you resize it slightly. 1100px instead of 1200 might do the trick... maybe even 1150px.

If you're editing in Photoshop, click "Save for web" - this will allow you to micro-adjust the quality on your final JPG, preserving almost full quality of the image but allowing for a smaller file size. You really won't lose much of anything saving at "97% quality" instead of 100%.

You may want to edit it further, it needs a bit more contrast - check auto levels.

As mentioned above your image definitely needs more contrast, has some grain visible and colour could be made better, looks rather blue/magenta.

Cheers Mark.

Quoting johnsiebert (Thread starter):

The file shouldn't be too large if you don't sharpen that photo's backrgournd and foreground, I think.

Hey there,
thanks for your immediate answers. I now edited it further in terms of color and contrast, okay like this?

http://abload.de/image.php?img=img_718396jst.jpg

still the file size is a problem, resizing or saving for web results in the same: a loss of quality, which is in my opinion not really suitable for a.net without re editing..
really the only option to resize it somewhat and then re-edit a little bit?

@ptrjong, I did only sharpen the fuselage and in some cases parts of the surrounding but not the whole image..

all the best
John

I use the "Save As" option in Photoshop and drop the quality down from 12 to 11 and have had no problems getting shots accepted. The loss of quality is not that large IMHO at the highest settings like that.

At 1200 px width it happens I suppose.

As RCoulter says, quality 11 in Photoshop is still OK.

While I don't use Photoshop currently (haven't used it in a few years actually), and I use Windows Live Photo Gallery, I actually don't notice that much of a difference when I resized my submitted photo to the acceptable size dictated by the site.
