Hi all
I've Just received a new camera Nikon Coolpix P520. I use to do photography many years ago with a Praktica MTL 5B but never aircraft. I'm now getting back into photography and aviation is an interest. I live over the flight path of Prestwick Airport and the airport is around 15 min drive away. Also heading to Arrecife in October with its easily accessible airport. Firstly what do you guys think of the camera and what can I expect from it.

I'm sure the camera is decent, but the lens will not be brilliant. It's a 24-1000mm zoom lens - it cannot be good across that whole range. It's probably fine for general photography across a reasonable part of that range and possibly quite good across a small subset.
I'm confident it's perfectly capable of taking images of sufficient quality for this site, but would probably require optimum conditions and to be shot at the best focal length. You'll only work out what that is by experimenting with the camera.

Correct, if your on a budget then get it. You dont need to go out of your way to get and expensive camera. I use a Panasonic DMC-SZ1EB-K for my planespotting and ive managed this shot in the database:
