Mobile Phone Photos In The Database

Thu Sep 05, 2013 10:33 pm

I can recall many previous topics asking if photos taken from mobile phones had the quality to get accepted here on the site. The general consensus was that it would would take a bit of luck. Of course there were a few exceptions where some mobile shots had already been accepted for things such as notable and unexpected events that were also priority screening candidates.
Well as with all things, technology continues to evolve and in a separate topic I read the following post.

Why buy a camera? Use your phone.

Taken with a Samsung Galaxy S2. The S4 is even better.

So I think it would be interesting to see just how many photos in the database have been been taken from mobile phones. Please share
Oh, it's a big pretty white plane with red stripes, curtains in the windows and wheels and it looks like a big Tylenol.

But an accident pic is held by more lenient standards!
Trust me, I didn't plan on taking pics when I came across this scene, and I bet there are many occassions like this that made it in the database.

I'm watching Jeopardy. The category is worst Madonna songs. "This one from 1987 is terrible".

I tried a few years ago with some taken with a Nokia N8 which had one of the best cameras fitted to a phone but they didn't get through screening here.

Those that said that a camera phone would never have the quality were wide of the mark and they will only get better.
Whatever.......

This one came off a Samsung Note II camera. The Note is a phone/tablet hybrid (phablet?).

This is the first (and last) one I remember seeing, I was surprised to say the least. It gives me hope for all the casual window views I've taken when my DSLR isn't handy!

Also, this one comes up if I search "iPhone 4S" in the keyword field

It's good to see that the quality is finally reaching acceptable standards.

All of the shots are of static aircraft so I guess the real benchmark will be for an aircraft inflight. much more challenging of course due to the natural distance. I don't believe that the zoom on a phone or tablet can still keep the overall image quality. I'm sure it will me a different story in the next 5 years or less.
