D90 Error

Tue Oct 08, 2013 12:07 pm

Hi all,

My old Nikon D90 has developed an eletronic fault. The shutter still works, but photos are not being recorded and settings cannot be changed. The display on top says 'Err'. Photos on the memory card can still be seen and browsed through.

Removing the battery, or pressing the reset button on the side of the camera doesn't help. Are there any tricks out there for a deep reset maybe? Clickhappy in an old thread talks about a 'two-button reset', how?

The camera is due for replacement soon anyway. If I send it in for repair, is there any chance that this is going to be cheap, in your experience?

Thanks,

Peter

Hold down the two buttons with green dots next to them, give it a solid five count and then release.

Thanks Royal. It doesn't help though.

Hi Peter,

how about a Firmware update? Did you already try it? It will may help if the reset doesn´t work.

Hi Andre,

I didn't think of that, it won't hurt to try it suppose. Thanks!

I don't get the 'update' option in my camera under 'Firmware version'. I did put NKLD01009.bin on the root of the memory card.

However I googled a bit of course and somebody else with these symptoms had a broken diaphragm. Is there any way to check if it might be this?

This thread can be closed as far as I'm concerned - I'm now the happy owner of a D7100.

By the way I had a mental blackout - the broken camera is a D80, not a D90.
