A380s At LAX - Follow Up....

Previous thread is locked, but just a bit more info. I've seen Emirates takeoff from the south side twice in the last couple weeks (I assume they need the runway length as they seem to be the only one, but I don't know). Here's (approximately) the rather long taxi route they follow to get to 25L:

As you can see, it's just under 4 miles long, and earlier this evening, it was about 32 minutes from pushback to takeoff.

Anyway, I thought it was interesting. It does provide a few opportunities for different photos as it follows the taxi route...

Air NZ's taxi from T2 to 25R is longer.. Funny because 25R is the longest runway. But the 25s are both longer than the 24s so I'd expect EK to need the 25s. Which airline was this?

Happens more often. I was spotting at LAX yesterday and all heavies were departing 25R, only the A380's, they were taxiing to runway 25L.
I arrived myself the day before at LAX and we landed with out 747-8i on 25L as well. And the secret behind was 24L was closed. So landing 24R and 25L and take off 25R+L. That's why all heavies were departing 25R. A380 and B747-8i are not allowed to use 25R for take off as the wingtip clearance with the taxiway B is not sufficient. So they had to taxi on the southern taxiway of the runways and depart 25L.

I don't konw how long and how often 24L will be closed, but that was the reason yesterday.

True, but they should be able to do a shortest-route taxi to 25R. Shouldn't have to go roundabout like the A380.

Ah, I didn't know the 748 had the same restriction.

Wow, that must have really excited the Imperial Hill spotters! I love it when planes use 25L.

My guess is wingtip clearance between the taxiway (I assume you're referring to taxiway C) and the gates at terminals 4,5,6,7. Looks like there's only about 125 feet between the taxiway centerline and the edge of the gate area.

Whoops, I meant along Taxiway C westbound before passing behind 07L, instead of doing the loop around past the remotes.

The A380 and 748 cannot use taxiway B next to runway 25R beginngin from taxiway S, eastbound. Not enough wingtip clearance. Sure the 380 could taxi S, B, T to cross the runways. But maybe some other traffic was pushing back as well and wanted to go southbound or another airplane was taxiing in to the parking stand next to him etc. So various reasons possible here

When I was at LAX I saw the KE A380 as well taxi northbound on Sierra and then coming down to runway 25L again. It was because another airplane push backed as well, and left S southbound and then another airplane came into S from the south and used a parking stand next to the A380.

Yeah, quite a few spotters were there. Me as well and I will screen my pictures today and will upload a couple of them. But of course best was the LH 747-8i arrival
