Spotting Locations At Kord

Thu Dec 19, 2013 6:02 pm

Hello!

I am traveling to Chicago over Christmas and plan on doing some spotting with my Nikon D3100. I am trying to figure out spots to go where I won't have police chasing me out but I can get a good view. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Merry Christmas,

Hi
Well , in this case I'm not recommending south cargo spotting area due to high activity of security there. We , ORD Airport Watch group, are fine there. Once new runway was opened this is the best spot at ORD now.
Also there is few differrent spots around. Famous USG parking lot may be still good place when 28R will be in use. It happened last time often. I saw it opened for arrivals last sunday. You can look for other threads about ORD spotting places.

Jack,
I have not been out more than once since the new Rwy config opened but if 28R is in use, then the USG building is the best place. IF 28C is in use, go to the very end of the street ( intersection of Scot Street and Lawrence) and face north. That is probably your best bet. The aircraft will be practically over your head as they land. Or I have heard that the Schiller Park Metra station too is a good spot, but I have not tried it.

For take offs in that direction, you could try any of the places near Beeline road and York road on the west side. But like I said, I hv not been out recently.

Just curious, what days are you planning to be at ORD?
