Pre-Screening: Sunrise A380 Shot

Tue Apr 03, 2012 10:17 pm

Hi all

I'm back with another attempt after a bit of an absence.

I have the following entered in the queue. Very special to me as my future wife was on-board and I promised her (and myself) that I would get a good shot of her landing.

http://www.airliners.net/addphotos/b...sa380landinglhrwithjessapr2012.jpg

My only worries are the jetwash causing the port wing to look slightly soft, although from this angle there really is not a lot I can do about that and I hope the screeners see fit to allow me that.

Your thoughts are very much appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Charlie.

Incredible shot, the only issue I think the screeners may see is perhaps that the obstructions may be a bit excessive. The jet wash - is minimal wouldnt be overly worried about that. The shot is just generally quite epic, so I think you have a significant chance. Good Luck!

It actually looks blurry, and there are several other soft areas (both wings, tail) that are likely not from the jet wash.

That is not an issue, as there is no actual obstruction of the aircraft.

The angle had the A380 coming from the top left of the frame... I think it's the jetwash partly, but if it's not then I'm close to giving up because I thought I had a great shot and it still won't get through.

Well, you're the only one who has seen the original, so you're the only one who knows if it really is jet wash affecting the whole shot. Some jet wash is allowed (and expected), but if it's affecting the whole aircraft, there might not be anything you can do. If it's only affecting the left wing as you say, then you may be able to fix it. I'm just telling you most of the aircraft is soft - how or why, I can't tell you.

I don't think it'd just affect the left wing unless the laws of physics have been rewritten! I've done a very quick and crude edit to show where I think the jetwash may have affected the aircraft.

You said originally that both wings and the tail may be soft, likely not from jetwash, hopefully I've shown here how I thought it could be jetwash. Are these the areas you meant?

As for the original, it's not too different to what you see here. Just levelled, and levels/exposure changed with a touch of sharpening. I shot in RAW so maybe there's something wrong with my very inexperienced editing process?

Thank you again.

Charlie.

Could be...we can only judge the end result, not where you started or how you got there. My simple assessment is that it looks soft overall. You can take your chances as-is, or you can try re-editing it to improve those chances.

OK, so we have the original one in the queue...:

Another edit with one more boot of sharpening...:

And finally another one with a yet further pass of sharpening:

Which is most likely to stand a chance do you think?

Probably the second, though it's already starting to get some jaggies on the trailing edge of the wing.

Other two gone, I'll take the chance. If it works in my favour, great. If not... well, it could be a while before I try again.

Thanks for your help again, Dana. Always grateful for that.
