First Uploads

Wed May 16, 2012 4:24 pm

Another try at getting a first accepted shot, these two are very different, the first I think will be rejected because I haven't seen a picture like on this site (and my quality probably won't be good enough anyway) but can anyone tell me specifically why?

Can anyone tell me if I can upload the photos anywhere other than the upload queue ont his site as at the moment I can only show two at a time? (I mean to you, I know I haven't earned the right to submit more than two to the screeners)

Hi Ben,

The first shots needs a lot more contrast and some CCW rotation aswell. You might want to crop the right side a bit closer aswell.
The second photo will most likely get rejected for motive; the combination of not a lot of wing & nothing really interesting outside will prove fatal (I think). It is also soft.

Is the first one a motive though? I mention I haven't seen ones like it before: (this type gets rejected?)
The second one I thought the light on the wing and the clearness of the sky with the orange'ish in the middle would help, could I sharpen or crop it to make it interesting, or is it lost?

To counter 'softness', do I just sharpen? Then I get too much grain in at least one portion of the picture, which can be fixed by 'masking' but that just softens it, thus defeating the purpose of sharpening?

Crop a bit closer on the right as Kas suggested, and I think you'd be fine for motive.

But the contrast is extremely low, and adding a lot of contrast will likely introduce noise as well.

Just sharpen the parts that need sharpening. So in your second photo, select just the wing and sharpen. No need to sharpen the sky, and as you said, that would add a lot of noise.

However, I'd agree with Kas that it'll likely be a motive rejection. Next time, include more wing.

The motive is fine, but it will be rejected for the poor quality and very low contrast.

The reason you don't see many (there are some) like this is that it is extremely difficult to get good quality images shooting through aircraft windows, especially in poor light - as is demonstrable with your image above.

Looks soft, overexposed at the winglet, low on contrast.
