Pre Screening - Editing Help Colours

Tue Nov 06, 2012 6:42 pm

Hi guys,

this morning (very early) I took this shot of Lufthansas B747-8.
I did some editing in PS but however I am not 100% satisfied with the colours of the image. I have to admit that I am not a photoshop/editing pro.

Take a look at my version:

How would you rate it, is there anything I could improve?

I would appreciate some editing help or any advice.

Thanks a lot.

It looks pretty good on my screen.

There are some halos around the aircraft and noticeable banding in the sky, so an editing and/or quality rejection is likely.

Hi thanks for your response,

the mentioned effects are probably due to my limited editing skills.

So is there anyone willing to help me with the editing?

I would appreciate it.

thanks &

Regards

It doesn't need to be hosted here, there are many free image hosting sites. I use Imageshack myself.

here is the original,

No banding or halos visible in this one, so they must have been introduced somewhere along the line with your editing.

The original photo is beautiful. So sharp and noiseless! My originals are so much worse I'm stunned

What camera/lens did you use?

Here's my attempt at editing. Photos with this level of quality are pleasure to edit!

Seriously? It's quite soft, almost to the point of being blurry. I'm a little surprised he got something workable out of it, actually.

I'm very serious and by that I primarily mean that my originals are far worse than that!

sorry for OT

Well I have to admit that the orginal is actually really soft and to some extent noisy.
So Dana is absolutely right.

But life is often like this when you use equipment which is not worth the equivalent of a small car (It was a simple EOS1100D with a 55-250mm lens)

The softness is really not a big issue if you resize it and sharpen it. And thanks to Dfine 2.0 even the noise is not a problem.

But back to the topic.

Yes the halos came from my editing. I do (always) have my problems with early morning / late evening light.
I have not figured out how to correctly process them colourwise.
Because normally I change the colour levels by setting a black and a white point. But with this light I don't have a white point.
That's why I am asking for help now.

@epten: thanks for your help. What did you do to change the colours? Could you describe it?

Otherwise it is a bit soft now, isn't it?

Hey guys,

well I could not help myself but I simply could not find the right colours for the picture above.

I tried a new one:

Would this picture stand a chance?

http://www.airliners.net/addphotos/b...dy/t1352658368.4663img_3999air.jpg

I gave it a smaller size to avoid quality issues.

So what do you think?

Thanks & regards

A bit dark, but otherwise not too bad.

Hi Dana,

thanks for your response.
Sitting in front of another monitor, I have to admit that it really seems to be a bit dark.

I will lighten it up and then it should be allright.

Thanks again & have a nice day!
