Pre-screening Photoshooter

Tue Nov 20, 2012 7:42 pm

Hi screeners/photographers

I bought a new camera yesterday, the Nikon D3200 18-105MM. I went spotting at EIN today and I'd love to hear your opinion about following pictures. Thanks a lot!

Hi Niek,

You'll need to do a couple of things first: a) the images will need to be posted at upload size. It is impossible to say anything about quality if they are below the final upload size; b) most will need to be cropped tighter; c) most look like they are outside of the 3:2 minimum required size ratio.

Try fixing those thing up, and then post a couple of them again and we can comment on quality.

Hi Dana

Thanks for your feedback! What do you think about this one (edited)? I will try to edit the others tomorrow.

Thanks Dana, I uploaded it!

Here's the result after editing the first Hercules, it looks a bit blurry or is it just me?

It looks more soft (very) than blurry on my screen. It's a little low in the frame for me as well.

Thanks! Could this have something to do with the upload to Dropbox? I noticed that some quality gets lost. Same with this one:

Quite possibly as compression may be applied to reduce the file size that effects quality. The Ryanair is a little low in the frame for me as well.

Darren, thanks for the feedback! I tried to sharpen it a bit and you are right about the positioning.
Here's the result, let me know what you think! FYI, the image looks a lot better on my screen as JPEG file than the uploaded image on dropbox...

Still needs a bit of sharpening Niek. Dropbox does not compress files btw nor does it reduces quality so that's no 'excuse' (not the right word) for it being soft.

This should be better. I'm using ViewNX2 for editing, got it for free and this is the highest sharpening level I can use on this photo... Is this picture still too soft? Let me know! Thanks.

Better, yes, but still not quite good enough. Is the original sharp to begin with?

Apologies for the delayed reply. I decided to drop this photo.

Any of these new shots look good, in other words, worth to edit?
Thanks for looking!

Are these your upload edits? If not, it's kind of hard to tell. All have issues with softness, and level, crop, and noise for some. If these are only rough edits, I might try again with the first or second, but keep in mind the subjects are pretty common, so you'll need to end up with pretty good quality.

Yes, only rough edits. I'll look into the first and second one later next week. Thanks
