JetBlue's refurbished A320, AUS-BOS, August 2018

Mon Dec 10, 2018 11:51 pm

Hey everyone, welcome to another trip report of mine, this time on JetBlue's refurbished A320 from Austin to Boston. Apologies in advance as this report is considerably shorter than my usual reports.

JetBlue 1038
Austin-Bergstrom [AUS/KAUS] - Boston [BOS/KBOS]
August 31st, 2018
STD: 18:33 (CDT)
STA: 23:30 (EST)
Actual flight time: 3 hours 46 minutes
N568JB, A320-200 (Blue Sapphire)
Seat 22A, Economy Class

I took the bus to the airport, and arrived a couple of hours before departure. Security took longer than expected, but I was airside by 5:30 PM.

Don't know what happened there, but I didn't hear anything about it so I assume it was just a precaution.

My aircraft for the day, N568JB (Blue Sapphire) had just arrived (early) from FLL at gate 28.

Boarding was on time; I settled into 22A. N568JB was one of just 3 of JetBlue's A320s that had been refurbished with the new interior and IFE at the time. The aircraft featured newly upholstered seats (in a darker grey color), larger IFE touchscreens (10") with USB ports and in-seat power. The IFE itself included videos on demand, a step up from the 3 looped movies on the rest of the fleet.

We were soon off, taking off from runway 35R. The sun soon set.

The cabin crew came around with the complimentary snacks and drinks soon after takeoff. As you can probably tell from the photos, the dark blue mood lighting was used quite liberally, throughout the flight.

Sometime later we passed over Cleveland.

I took a nap after a while, and woke up as we were touching down on Boston's runway 4L.

To sum it up, JetBlue's refurbished interior is a much needed step up. The reupholstered seats clearly made a difference, as did the better organized IFE. If only they could roll this out quicker. Thank you for reading, and do check out my Flickr stream!

Problem: I read they were reducing the legroom I think from 33" to 32"? Did you notice the difference. O ne reason I always flew with them was the legroom.

I myself am 6 ft 1" and still was pretty comfortable; I could stretch out and had a couple of inches of knee room. So there was no noticeable difference with regards to legroom, still probably the best in Y among US carriers.

Thanks for your comment.

Those interiors look pretty sharp. I love the blue accent lighting!

Yeah, the old interiors on my return flight were pretty worn. Hopefully they pick up the pace on the refurb and decide to update the E190s at some point too. Thanks for your comment.

Good to hear that the legroom was still good. Sure beats the 29-30 inches on an AA 73Max!

It is still the best legroom in Y for U.S. airlines. It is a shame they started the basic economy next year. Still the best choice for domestic flying when talking about in flight Y experience.

Nice interior! LH prefers white - and I mean the true stuff you get at hospitals. The newer 320s get a bit of yellow under the overhead bins but white is still the color they like the most. Which is fun when boarding is at 6 am

Definitely. I'll be flying the dreaded MAX next month and I am NOT looking forward to it.
