I left my car in long-term parking and caught a shuttle to the airport for my 12 noon flight. I arrived at Bradley around 10:40 and checked in with no wait. After that I went down to the terminal. The security women sent my backpack through the x-ray three times, rather than just ask me what it was she was seeing, which I though was odd. Finally, one of them said, "What is this, a pair of ice skates?" It was, and I told her so, and she told the other woman it was ok and handed me my bag. I walked around in circles for awhile in the American terminal. There was a plane parked at one gate that I wanted to get a better look at but I couldn't because the walkway was in front of it. Darn. I think it was a 737. I also saw an AA Saab 340. My flight was on a Delta 757, and we started boarding a little after 11:30. I had seat 33F- a window, yay! Right behind the wing. The flight was completely full. Our captain was very nice, and kept us up to date about what was going on, even though we were right on time. Our cruising altitude was to be 39000 feet, but at 31000, he came on and said there were reports of turbulence up there and that we would level off around 37000. We still hit a bit of turbulence and he even came on the loudspeaker and gave a brief explanation of what causes turbulence. Once we leveled off, the rest of the flight was smooth and uneventful. A snack consisting of a dry turkey sandwich, a bag of chips, and apple, and three Pepperidge Farm cookies was served. The sandwich was gross but I was starved so I ate it anyway, and the chips and cookies were good. There were free headphones on each seat and I watched CNN for awhile, followed by Friends. After that was a BBC show about dinosaurs but it looked boring, and we were on initial descent by then anyway so I just looked out the window. ATL is very confusing but I got to baggage claim and found my hotel shuttle without any problems.

This flight was more hectic than the first one. The shuttle bus was fifteen minutes late picking me up at the hotel and I got to the airport at 8:00 for an 8:35 flight. I checked in and got my boarding pass outside and I was glad I did because the lines inside were really long. When I went through x-ray this time, they ran my skate bag through three times but just handed it to me after that without asking what was in it. My gate was B29. I decided to walk it rather than wait for the tram. By now it was about 8:05. I started walking and had just gotten to the A Concourse tram stop when the tram pulled up. So I jumped on and rode it to the B Concourse stop. I got up to B Councourse by 8:10 or so and decided I had just enough time to run into a shop and grab presents for my mom and dad. I still had quite a hike down to B29 and I got there just as they were announcing boarding for rows 28 and up. I was in seat 34F so I was able to get right on. As we were in the walkway there was a bin of SkyDeli bags to pick up for breakfast. They had a bagel, cream cheese, strawberry yogurt, a banana, and OJ. I ate the bagel but that's it. Before we took off, I used the chart in Sky magazine to identify some of the other Delta a/c around us. I saw an MD80, a couple of 727's, several other 757's, and 3 Tri-Stars. Again, we had a very nice captain who kept us up to date. This time, it was more of an issue as we pulled out of the gate at our take-off time of 8:35. Around 8:50, he announced that we were in line for take-off with about fifteen other planes, that he didn't know what order, and that he thought we'd be taking off around 9:10. He hit it right on the nose and we took at 9:10 for a fairly smooth uneventful flight to Hartford, getting in only about five minutes late. On the way down, I could see Hartford, Springfield, and Six Flags Amusement park in Agawam, MA. Since I didn't get lost or killed or anything, my parents said I can probably go to Detriot by myself in February.
