Well, this was my first domestic flight, it was way back in.......94' I think. It was February and I was just too excited. The airline was America West. The flight was LGA>MDW, via a connection in their CMH hub. The aircraft was a Boeing 737-200, my first domestic plane, and third flight of my entire life. Well, the day came, and the flight was in the evening and I was so excited. It was me, my grandmother, bro-in-law and father. So it was 5:30p, and we checked in at an ok pace. This was also my first time in LaGuardia, which I liked. So since it was February, it got dark early. The flight was at 6:45p. We boarded like around 6:30something, I can't really remember. So the 732 was so nice, I really liked it, the interior was nice, clean & fresh just waiting for us. At every single seatback was a TV system. I found that it was just too cool. Well, we happened to depart a little late, can't remember how much late though. So the night flight was absolutely gorgeous, nothing could've been better than seeing our NYC from the air. We just had drinks only and snacks, like cookies or whatever. We started our descend into CMH and the landing was nice. I just love landing in the night, and seeing a sea of little blue lights on the ground for as far as the eye could see. There wasn't really any traffic in CMH that night, if any at all. We taxied straight into the gate, which was conveniently next to our connecting flight. I must say, since our flight from LGA was late, that was the fastest connection I've EVER made in my whole life, even up to this day! I can't even remember seeing inside the airport, only outside from the plane HAha! We got out of our 732, and ran DIRECTLY into the other plane, I didn't even get to see the gate itself properly. Before I knew it, we were airborn once again. The funny thing was, on the itinerary, the flight departed CMH at 9:10p and would arrive into MDW at 9:13p, it was really funny to see that, but it was just due to the time change. I can't remember how long the actual duration of the flight was. All I remember is that I was enjoying it. But on the second half, there was this little girl sitting in front of me, and she was SO ANNOYING, just beyond irritating, only crying, shouting and just wants damn attention! Well, it just so happens, that on my returning flight, who would I see sitting in front of me again? The little wench, SHEESH! I had two seats for myself from MDW. The return was only a stop in CMH, no change. Thank goodness the lil' wench dissembarked in CMH, jeeze that was hell. Since this was my first domestic flight, I experienced something for the first time, of which today I laugh at. When we took off from MDW, it was really powerfull, and after about half hour, I just felt the plane started to slow down in mid air dramatically! I never held onto seat handles so tight in my life! It slowed down so much, you could actually feel yourself being thrown sort of, from your seat, kinda like thrust reversing during landing. The flight was a mid-day flight. So we started to descend into LGA in the early evening, still bright as day. We came in over flushing bay, not over Shea Stadium as I had thought. We were over the water, coming closer and closer, and I saw how the water was starting to spray sort of, because of all the wind from the plane, it was SO close, then woosh, the runway magically came under us, we touched down, and went straight to the gate and it was all over. Overall, I really liked America West's service. The 732 was awesome, but nothing compared to what I flew on on my following trip, which is a whole other story.
Bring back McDonnell Douglas & T W A!!
