So much for my gourmet lunch! My latest military travels took me to Warner Robins, GA., for a three-day class. I arrived at 11 a.m. Oct. 2 at Mitchell Field in Milwaukee to catch Midwest Express flight #103, a 11:35 a.m. departure for Atlanta. However defore I even made it to the ticket counter to check in, I glanced up at the TV monitors to find it was canceled. Personel at Midex said the cancelation was due to mechanical reasons (could it be from to few passengers on the flight?) Regardless, my nice lunch was out the window as I headed down toward Delta's lone gate to catch its 11:55 a.m. departure of flight #2101 to Atlanta. The flight was full, but the gate agent gave me 26B - which was a emergency aisle, so that was nice. The MD-88, N910DE with its old livery, took off on time from 25L. Service was nice and prompt, and the plane looked clean. Inside my snack bag I grabbed on the jetway was a small ham sandwich, apple, bag of chips and a cookie. Flight attendants were pleasant, especially one of the male attendants, who greeted everyone with a smile and even performed a magic trick for a little girl seated a few rows ahead of me. Flight was uneventful and we landed in Atlanta's northern most runway (26R I think) 15 minutes ahead of time and parked at B7 if memory serves me right. All in all a nice flight. Quick thoughts about Hartsfield - VERY VERY BIG. I walked all the way to the baggage claim because in part I could use the exercise, but didn't realize how much of a hike it was. Four years earlier and I could have stayed in Atlanta and run the 1500! Nice airport though. I've always wanted to see Hartsfield, now the remaining two I've yet to visit is DFW and DIA. Caught the shuttle to Dollar and picked up my white Neon, and stopped no more than a half mile later at a Dairy Queen to get directions to 75 south. Of course I still found 75 north! But after a quick turn around, I was at the Ramada in Warner Robins by 5 p.m. Was able to do some sight seeing in Warner Robins-Macon, including a Civil War battlefield and the largest enclosed mall in Georgia (I'm told is in Warner Robins). Time to head home. Check out at 7:30 a.m. Oct. 6 and hit 75 north. Weather quickly detoriated approaching Atlanta as heavy rain and low visibility slowed traffic. Turned my car in and caught the shuttle to the airport. Arriving at Midex's ticked counter about 9:45 a.m. for its 11:50 a.m. departure of flight #114 to Milwaukee, no agent was available. However, a small note said to ring the bell once and an agent will appear (like a magic trick!) So I rang the bell and waited. People next to me at the United counter looked at me with jealously at the small one-person line I was standing in. Four minutes passed, no agent. I rang the bell again Two more minutes passed, no agent. Then another passenger showed up. I told him about my tribulations with the bell, but then he chimes in, "Well I haven't hit the bell yet," and he goes and hits the bell six or seven times in rapid session with his finger. A minute later the agent shows up. I hand her my ticket and starts processing my luggage when she asks, "Are you the one who's been hitting the bell?" I took the heat for my fellow passenger and said "yea" in a soft voice. She replies "You only have to hit the bell once." So I was yelled at by the agent, at least my flight wasn't cancelled - just delayed. Weather in Atlanta caused several flight delays, including mine. This time I took the train down to terminal D. With time to kill the ends of the terminal offered great views of departing and arriving aircraft. The inbound from Milwaukee arrived about 30 minutes late. Fortunately it was a quick turnaround and we boarded the DC-9 30, N301ME still in its old livery, about 12:15 p.m. (I see N301ME is a rather popular aircraft in these trip reports). The flight was three-fourths full. We taxied to 26L and took off about 12:40 p.m. First 30 minutes of flight was a little bumpy, but once we got through the clouds, things became much smoother. The inbound flight delivered several copies of the Journal Sentinel, which was a nice touch, although I'm more of a fan of the Cudahy Reminder. Lunch was a bag or Gardettos and a turkey club with veggies and dip, followed by two freshly baked cookies. I passed on the wine and champagne. Aircraft was clean and flight attendants pleasant and helpful. We landed on 1L about 1:20 p.m. and parked at D47. Both flights were pleasant and overall a nice trip. Great report! It has the details that I like to see so I can get a sense of how the trip experience went.

I am sorry to hear of the cancelled Midex flight (I can relate to missing the gourmet lunch. It's happened to me, too!) as well as the trouble you had with the agent on the return. Seems to me that yelling at you was totally unnecessary.

You should write a letter about the agent. She obviously needed to "have her bell rung" several times to get the message...
