Trip Report III: SIN-KUL SQ0114

Thu Oct 26, 2000 9:57 pm

Singapore Airlines 0114
9V-SRD (Boeing 777-212ER)
Scheduled/Actual Dep: 1700/1713
Scheduled/Actual Arr: 1755/1800
Scheduled/Actual FT: 0:55/0:47
Seat 50A

This was a very short flight as it was only about 45 minutes from lift-off to landing. There was no PTV and we proceeded to gate F52 (at the east concourse) to board 9V-SRD, a B777-212ER with a two-class configuration. Boarding started at about 4.30pm, very early for a flight of this nature. In fact, this plane had just come in from Japan and all the pax from the previous flight had already disembarked. Anyway, the interior was spacious and wide and we got seats 50A and C (right next to the toilets). Push back was on the dot at 5.00pm but not before we were given hot towels to refresh ourselves and the local newspaper of the day (they have Streats too, which I picked up from the airport!). Before push-back we were already served coffee and tea followed by some light refreshment (which was a piece of cake served on a dish).

Taxied out of the terminal to runway 02R and before us, were a SIA 777-200 and an A310-300. A 747-400 was following us presumably to San Francisco/Los Angeles. We started rolling at 5.12pm and lifted off at 5.13pm. Our flight time was estimated to be 45 minutes and after take off we were served another round of coffee and tea and the FAs collected the dishes. One of them even had a short but interesting conversation with me about their 777 when I commented on how clean the plane was. We climbed up to 31,000 feet before descending again rather steeply and I saw the city of KL below us.

At about 5.52pm, the landing gear was lowered and flaps were out but somehow we had to miss the first approach (it was still early in the landing phase) and went for a second attempt. We touched down, very nicely at exactly 6.00pm and taxied to the concourse but I couldn't see which gate we docked at as we were in a hurry to get to the hotel. Everyone was very tired by then and the FAs nice farewell made our day.

The KLIA is a very nice airport because of the massive amount of glass used but it must be a maintenance headache. Nevertheless, we waited for about an hour at the immigration as a couple of other flights had just made it before us.

I've just had my dinner and will be going to bed soon. Can't really keep my eyes open now =).
