This is the continuation of my trip, the first leg of which was discussed in the post "Going to Phoenix (Weird Trip) part 1"
My return from Phoenix to Kansas City went smoother than my inbound trip. The first leg of the return was American Airlines flight 1552, leaving PHX for DFW at 11:43 AM. Aircraft was a 757, registry N626AA, delivered 8/14/90.
The flight departed on time. Attendants were friendly and professional. Takeoff smooth, cruising altitude 37,000. No turbulence, and pilot said we had a tailwind and would arrive in DFW at least 10 minutes early.
Lunch/snack was a turkey/cheese wrap, chips, and a cookie. I'm allergic to cheese so I couldn't eat the snack, but the person next to me said it was tasty.
Condition of the aircraft was mediocre. My seat tray was loose and didn't work properly. The window shade for the row in front of mine was stuck in the down position, which irritated the window seat passenger. The overhead bins were dinged and scratched, and the carpet and upholstery on the seats was rather worn. On the other hand, the reconfiguration for more leg room was VERY nice, and overall the trip was comfortable.
We arrived in Dallas 15 minutes early, but it took FOREVER to taxi to the gate and we actually got to the gate 5 minutes past our scheduled arrival.
The next leg, from Dallas to MCI, was flight 1185, scheduled 727. However, the 727 that normally flies this route was out of service, so they used an MD-80 instead. Registry N70504, in service 10/31/89.
Scheduled departure was 3:54, but although all the passengers were boarded on time, we were delayed 30 minutes. One of the overhead bins wouldnt' shut properly, so they had to get a maintenence person out to fix the lock.
Other than the bin problem, this aircraft was in better condition than the 757. The carpet and upholstery was newer, and there werent' as many dings and scratches in the interior. Again, it was reconfigured for more legroom, and that was nice.
Flight attendants were once again friendly and helpful. Drinks were served quickly and efficiently. The flight had a little turbulence due to a storm system in the central plains, but overall it was another pleasant trip.
Cruised at 34,000.
Arrived safe and sound at MCI 28 minutes late.
In general, I was very happy with my trip on American Airlines. I was a bit surprised about the somewhat worn interior of the 757, but the better legroom in coach made up for it. All the flight personnel were very nice, and when I asked for the registry numbers of each plane they were very quick to get it for me without asking why I wanted to know.
