DL/MALEV : DFW-JFK-BUD

Tue Dec 05, 2000 1:07 am

Another business trip. Another new airline to add to my list in Malev. Flight 584, an MD88, on Delta pushed back about 20 minutes late with probably less than a 75 people on aboard - take off was shortly after on DFW's 35L. Lunch was served and to my surprise there was even silver ware. ( Are there any specific domestic routes on which airlines like DL do a full service lunch like this? ) Arrival into JFK was on time at 4:25 pm. As we taxiied toward the gate I remembered that it had been almost 5 years since my last time at or through JFK. Where are the days when JFK was the only way to go East?

DL91 would be my second leg to BUD. Operated by Malev hungarian on a code share the plane was a 767-300ER (HA-LHD, Malev's only 763). The plane itself was pretty full, but the seat next to me was vacant. A window and an aisle to myself ... couldn't have planned it any better. As we climbed into the night sky, I couldn't help but remember that the last time I had made a night time departure from JFK was over 13 years ago on a Pan Am jumbo to Frankfurt. As an air of nostalgia crept into my mind I watched in awe at all the planes that were in the airspace around JFK. Malev's 767 itself was very clean with what was in my opinion 'strikingly different colors' on the interior. I can't remember the last time I saw bright green seat belts! Service was also pretty decent - at least as good as the US majors. Surprisingly enough I did not miss the seat back TVs as I thought I would. The estimated flying time was 8 hours and 10 minutes ... Touch down was exactly 8 hours and 7 minutes after takeoff on a very foggy morning - all set and ready for bed. Return to DFW will be in a few days on BUD-ZRH-ATL-DFW - looking forward to that first leg on a Swiss Air A319!

This is my first ever trip report and I hope it isn't as boring as I think it might be. In budapest and finally some time to browse the web. How did that happen? its certainly been a while since I posted here!
I've flown on 9V-SPK.

Nice Trip Report. Even though JFK isn't as big as it used to be, it still is the way to go and will probably always be "The Gateway to the U.S."

great report. Jderden777- I have never spotted at ZRH but I have been there and it is not the best airport in the world to me, I was dissapointed, the terminal that SR doesn't use, it doesn't even have carpet, it is very outdated and dirty.
