737NG Vs. A320 Family

Fri Dec 15, 2000 12:56 pm

Hi folks!

I've been curious about Boeing's new 737s (600/700/800) since they've come out. We here in Canada don't have the opportunity to fly on new 737s, as Canadian and Air Canada (now just one) operate A319s and A320s.

What are the main differences? Noise levels? Cabin comforts? Anything...

I've always been pro-Boeing, just because its closer to home. But I have nothing to compare the Airbuses to...

I found the 737 NG's I've flown on to be QUITE nice. I found them considerably quieter than their A320 series competitors. They were much better lit, cleaner, quieter, faster, higher flying and had much better restrooms, windows, cabins etc.

I would fly on an A319/20/21 anyday, but my choice would be for the 737NG.

I've flown on:
CO 73G
CO 738
SAS 736
DL 738
SW 73G
*Looking foward to the 739!

In early october 2000, I was the luckiest guy on earth I guess, because I had the chance to fly YUL-ORD on an AC320 and I came back (ORD-YUL) on an AA737-700. From that experience I draw the conclusion that it's not as easy as we might think to compare a/c, since a lot of one's impressions will depend also on your seat (in front, near the engine, in the back), the in-flight services, anything that has nothing to do really with the airplane but does make an impression on you nonetheless.

Is there any conclusion I could draw anyway ? Well, the only thing I'm pretty sure is that the 320 is a bit wider, given pax a bit more shoulder room. I was seated near the engines going to ORD and I was seated in the last row coming back to YUL, so how can I say which plane is less noisy ? And the in-flight service in so much better on AC than on AA, that creates the risk that I could say the 320 is better than the 737, right ? Overall, from a pax perspective, these planes a so much alike, what can I say. Fly them both and enjoy...
Never let the facts get in the way of a good theory.
