Hmm...Yes, I think I've seen a similar thread once or twice before...
I'm pretty pleased with American, because the new Recarro seats are pretty attractive and comfortable, and the legroom is a big plus. Also, the staff have been very friendly, and I have no major complaints in terms of other areas of service.
However, I should also say that I don't really hold grudges against other airlines. I've had good luck with United, Alaska, Southwest, and even America West. Across the Pond, Aer Lingus has been superb. I've been fortunate enough to have very few "negative" flying experiences. I've never had a flight cancelled, never been denied boarding, never had my luggage damaged or misplaced. The longest delay flight delay I've had was a little over two hours during Thanksgiving '99.
I was once on a flight that had a Northwest flight that had an engine failure and returned to Minneapolis. But, I was only 6 months old at the time, and can't remember a thing now. Plus, my parents tell me that they put us up in the Sofitel overnight, which isn't exactly slumming it.
Back in the mid-90s, I enjoyed flying on Reno Air, as they used to invite their UMs up in First Class so they could "keep an eye on us." Reno actually used to serve a little sandwich basket on the mealtime LAX-SJC flights in First, so I got a nicer seat and got fed too, at no extra cost.
Also, my grandmother and I got upgraded to Business on UA between JFK-LAX for no apparent reason. Our Y class seats were originally middle seats three rows apart. I don't think coach was full, so I'm not sure why it happend, but it certainly was a pleasant surprise!
