Malaysian Airlines 747 Seat Pitch?

Wed Jan 17, 2001 3:06 am

A friend will travel from London to Sydney with Malaysian Airlines. He is really tall and he wants to know what seat pitch Malaysian Airlines have on their 747. Or is there anybody who has experience with Malaysian Airlines? How is the service, the food? Do you feel cramped inside their 747's ?
please help me..

Even though Malaysia Airlines has bigger seat pitch, still I suggest Singapore Airlines.

I flew MH, from Singapore to Hong Kong, via K.L. in december, overall it was rather dissapointing, their 747-400 combis are rather cramped compared to the full passenger versions which are endowed with emenities such as seats with PTVs and adjustable head and foot rests.Having flown the last few times with SQ, I would still recommend them over MH, which does not have such consistent levels of service, things like pillows are kept in the overhead lockers instead of on passenger's seats, disposable wet napkins are given out instead of real hot towels and for the first time on an airline i have flown, they collected the menus at the end of the flight to recycle them. Most dissapointing however was the standard of the cabin crew. While I have heard previously of the genuine warmth and attentiveness of MH crew, I did not experience much of it on the majority of the flights and in fact found one of the flight attendants positively hostile on the flight to Hong Kong.

Your friend will have a great time flying Malaysian...service on board the Virgin code-share is excellent. There will be Virgin crew working alongside Malaysian crew and they hand out nice touches like Haagen-Dazs after meals to enjoy the PTV entertainment.

Something you rarely see on flights is the fact that on the nightflight KUL-LHR - Malaysia Airlines often serves hot soup and hot-chocolate in the middle of the night...lovely homely touches that I have yet to experience on other airlines. If you are a little more peckish on all long flights - Malaysia Airlines invites passengers into their galley to help themselves to cup-a-soups, pot-noodles, sandwiches, biscuits and FIND that chocolate drawer and you're onto a winner!

I often travel with Malaysia Airlines. Their 33-34 inch seat pitch with 17 inch seat width is one of the most spacious in the sky. In the Economy, all their B747-400s and B777-200s are equipped with personal TV's. Your freind shouldn't worry about aircraft as they are new and MAS utilizes B747-400s for the LHR-KUL-SYD v.v. sector. Their food and service is one of the best in Asia, in fact their in-flight service is better than Sinagpore Airlines. I am 6'2" and I feel very comfortable in their Economy Class. Sometimes, they serve Haagen Dazs ice creams as desert. Their 3 choices of main meal is superb!! During snack times, they serve cheese and crackers, cup noodles and sandwiches. I would truly reccomend this airline!

Yes, MH is the best airline of the world! I flew with them from FRA via KUL to SYD and back from CNS via DRW and KUL to FRA in 2000 . They offer a seat pitch of 34" in eco 744 and a seat width of 17.8 "! There is no airline in the world that offers that great seat pitch and width! Their A 333, I flew with them from CNS to KUL have 18.5 " seat width and nearly 35" seat pitch! The food is also very good... you will have the choice between 3 meals.. and the PTV's are also nice... But it is a pitty that MH 333's have no PTV's! From April the 1 2001 on, MH flies with 777 from KUL to SYD (depart at KUL : 9.45am and arrive SYD at 7.30pm). Last year I flew that route on 744...
If you want to have more information about my experiences of MH, you may send me an eMail :
