YUL-YYZ-CDG & CDG-YUL On AC 767 And A340

Mon Jan 22, 2001 12:32 am

Here I am arriving at Montreal/Dorval airport to start my 3 weeks vacations to france. At the time i booked my flight money would be the deciding factor so I didn't got a direct flight from YUL to CDG but one with a connection in YYZ, not really a problem for me since i will have 1 more landing and take off.

My first flight was schedule at 1500 but when we (my mom and i) checked the arrival screen when we got in the airport the aircraft was delayed until 1530, so we went to the restaurant section and grab a little something to eat. Around 14:45 I passed through security, and right after passing it i learned my flight got delayed one more hour, departing time would be 1630. So I went to a little bar because it was the only place where smoking was allowed in the airport and did a few calls on my cell phone and read some newspaper.

Finally the boarding call... I sat in the 767 seat which i had the precaution to reserve before and i got the 21A, a window seat of course  Smile

We pushed-back in time, and we taxi towards rwy 28, we rolled into position and off we went. Rotation came very quickly and we climbed pretty fast. As i was glued to the window the FAs started a drink service, that would be the only service for our short flight, after drinking my ice tea i asked one of the FA for a cockpit visit, unfortunatelly I was told that the flight was too short for a cockpit visit as the pilot were already preparing for descent. No problem, I thought, I'll ask on the YYZ-CDG leg. We started descent and the moon was starting to show up and we flew over the city of Toronto, very very beautiful sight! We landed on runway 23 and then taxi to terminal 2.

After landed i went directly to terminal 1 where my other flight would be departing from. I felt really dissapointed by YYZ, I heard so much good about this sirport but from the 2 terminals i've saw of it I didn't felt confortable in this airport at all, I felt like there was some sort of very cold ambiance in there, it looked more like a psychiatric hospital than an airport. Anyhow, I decided to eat a little something so i went to a little restaurant and eat very little, then i went through the security because i was hoping it would be better on the other side. WRONG! There was this very long 'hall' with the gates, in total 5 stores scattered on the 700 or 800 meter long hall grey sad walls, very few windows ...enough said.

Around 1940 boarding started, then again i board the 767-200ER and sat on the seat i had reserved again a window seat 20K, then a very cute women camed and took the seat next to me, we starting chating a bit then the plane pushed back. we took of on 15L and flew over the city for a quick time, once again it was superb sight. After a few moments the captain camed onto the PA and annouced us that the lights we are seeing on our right was NYC, we told us that we would begin the oceanic crossing over Boston to end it over Brest in France. We were served dinner from which we had choice between Salmon or Chicken, I choose chicken and it was really good, after the played some movies but don't ask me which one because i slept throughout the flight after that, we i woke up we had just passed over France, we had hot towels and then the FAs started collecting the earphones, the we begun our descent into Paris which was in overcast clouds we landed without any incident at 0945 which was our scheduled arrival time, custom and picking up my lugage at CDG went very quickly.

Then I had a blast in France, I went skying in the alps with my dad and all the family then we crossed France to go back up north to my hometown where i also had a very good time with all my friends there.

On Jan 18th it was time to go back, my dad and I left Dunkerque (My hometown) at 7 in the morning to get to Paris at 1000 because my flight would be leaving at 1155. But we got stuck into some traffic jam for 30 mins, After that we got to CDG, looked 10 minutes for a parking spot and then we went to the checking counter, after that I and my dad went out for a cigarette, and then we said good bye until this summer (it was not easy). I went shopping for a carton of cigarette and then went to the gate and waited a few minutes and boading started.

The aircraft was supposed to be a A330-300 but it turned out to be an A340-300. I must say that I take back all I said about the A340, it is one of the quiestest and one of the most confortable aircraft i have been on, I now love the aircraft. We took off from Paris in time and after a few minutes in the air we were served drinks, and I started talking with my neighbor, then we were served dinner I once again took the chicken which was once again very good. The the first movie started it was The Kid, with Bruce Willis ...I slept. Then we had an afternoon colation which was a little sandwich 2 cookies and 1 orange juice, all were really good and then they played the second movie which was X-men. After 7:30 of flight we landed at Montreal/Dorval on rwy 24L and we taxi back to the gate .... vacation was over  Sad

To resume:

I loved the service on Air Canada. YYZ was very dissapointing. 767 is very powerful. the A340 is a great aircraft too, very quiet, and that's all  Smile
