Experiences In Atlanta On Delta Airlines

Mon Feb 12, 2001 2:16 am

Have any of you been through ATL, on Delta ? I fly through there frequently on them, because it is their main hub. You can see any type of aircraft there and it is a wonderful place to just watch the aircraft go up.

I love ATL. I've been there on three occasions. The first time, I was changing planes. I arrived on a DL 763 from BOS and was going on an L-1011 to SFO. The other two times...I was flying UA and ATL was my final destination. On my last ATL arrival, I was stuck on UA98, an A320, on taxiway E, short of F5. We sat there for over half an hour because thunderstorms were causing problems. I took advantage of the situation and starting taking pics of every plane that taxied passed. The other 100 passengers weren't quite as enthusiastic... Overall, ATL is an awesome airport and I can't wait for my next visit!

Last year I transitted ATL 4 times:

15 July DL1901 ex MSY B757 to DL856 JAX B757
1 hr 15min
31 July DL2101 ex MKE MD88 to DL453 JAX B757
55min
03 August DL1674 ex JAX B757 to DL876 CLT MD88
2hr45min
14 August DL964 ex CLT MD88 to DL4554 YYZ CRJ
60min+30min delay

Very impressed - everything went smoothly - no lost luggage - expect for DL876 to CLT when our bags made an earlier 35 min connexion which we weren't allowed to use when we booked, and were waiting for us at CLT.

The wait for the last flight (maintenance reasons?) at a ground level gate was a bit messy - 3 DL/ASA CRJ flights departing from 1 gate at the same time!

Saw an AirTran MD80/90 do a spectacular powerback from its gate too - just like a car reversing out of a driveway!

Overall ATL was a sight to behold - don't know if I'd try it in winter though - but I guess that applies all over N. Am then.

I flew thru Atlanta only once before and i thought it was awsome! I flew in on a Delta Airlines MD-88 from Bangor, Maine and Providence, Rhode Island and Then Connected to a Delta L-1011 going to Orlando. I have to say i have never seen so many people in one place at one time!! It was soooo crowded. But i enjoyed it very much!

Ive flown in and out of ATL many times, all on Delta.

In the T Concourse, they have those plasma T.V. sets hanging from the cieling that give all the information about your flight. Very informative. Also in the same concourse, they have the Delta History exibit, with plenty of memoribilia from an era gone by. (they've got an L-1011 engine cowling on display too.)

just flew through ATL twice on my way to RSW and back...only a few days ago in fact...had no problems at all with Delta but with ASA it is a totally different story...their flights are ALWAYS delayed...mine was even cancelled...on the sunday i was returning 9 out of 10 flights were delayed and the one that wasn't delayed was cancelled...horrible airline..i am growing tired of those ATRs too...but ATL is a happening place...

I was on a flight from ATL-MCO. The plane got dleyed for about 30min, due to the pilot wasn't there. But I had a great time at the airport, ate some food court food, and bought a DL 767 model. Then we boarded the plane, pushbacked, waited about 2min, and taxiied aroung the airport. Nice big airport it was, I like the red things on the terminals. We then got in line and took off. It was a pretty good flight in terms of service, food, entertainment.

I was born in Atlanta, so I've been there a few times, but we moved away to Columbus, Ohio when I was only 1 1/2. Then, when I was 4 we moved here to Kansas City. I can't remember what ATL was like, but I'll probably get a chance sometime in the near future because I may take a flight there on DL or NJ (Vanguard) this summer. Or maybe some other time. I can't wait to see my birth city again, or it's airport!  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

I love ATL... it really is heaven for any Delta enthusiast. The E Concourse is where I usually go since that's where the 777s are.

*grins* yes it is heaven on earth....*drools*...oh wait better stop that....anyway...that delta exhibit on T rules. heh....Once I was flying from Asheville and had a delay for like 4 hours because of bad storms...I walked through each of the conourses once...Great place=)...any of you who have checked in their probably know how distracting the check in service can be as you are looking over your shoulder to see what type of plane is zooming off past the parking garage  Big grin ...And then there is one of the things that will always remind me of delta....when you take off from 9L or 26R....that big red sign proudly proclaiming "FLY DELTA JETS" That is a piece of americana my friends.....United can keep their paint scheme from heck....and american can keep their silver eagles...Give me my good old widget in red and blue..Denver can keep DIA...Chicago can keep ORD ...Give me good old Hartsfield!

Wow, quite a large group of ATL fans, glad to see it  Smile
I live in Atlanta, and I think I have two homes...my one here north of the city and then the airport. I spend atleast one day a week at ATL spotting and shooting pics. I can't count the number of times I've flown out of ATL and I probably can never count the number of times I have just gone to the airport to watch. If any of you are ever here and want to be shown the good spots drop me an email and I'll see if I can get down there to take you around.

I'm always proud to be an Atlanta native too! I've got a friend that moved to Tel-Aviv last summer because his dad wanted to be closer to his family, he's flying back here to visit everyone this summer. Air France TLV-CDG-ATL and then he's taking a Delta flight up here to Kansas City. I'll tell him to tell me about it and maybe I could write a report for him. I wonder if he'll get a 744 flight into ATL? He'd probably preffer the 777 because he's flown 744s many times before. He told me his first flight was a KLM 744 from IAH-AMS. I've never left the country, so he's lucky. On his Air Canada flight YYZ-TLV he met a girl from London, and supposedly they went out for awhile. He's lucky again, some of those English girls are hot!  Smile/happy/getting dizzy hehe. I dunno what brought that up. Happy flying!

Canx Flights Out Of ATL

Thu Mar 29, 2001 6:26 am

Last year I was flying from Gulfport, MS-ATL-LAX. When I checked in at Gulfport, I was told my Delta flight from ATL-LAX was cancelled. She told me she could put me on an earlier flight from ATL to LAX but that flight left 10 minutes after my flight into ATL landed. When I got into ATL, I asked to gate agent to call over to my next flight and tell them I was on my way. She said she wouldn't do it because they wouldn't wait for me if they were ready to leave. Since I flew in on a puddle-jumper I had to run all the way to the Delta gates. This all occurred at 11:00 pm. I made it. When I boarded the L-1011, I wasn't even in my seat when they closed the door. When I did get to my seat, I was stuck in between two rather large guys. I was already out of breath from running from terminal D to A. I ended up in LAX so I guess I shouldn't complain.

Yeah I fly Delta all the time also and usually we connect in Atlanta, but sometimes Cincinnati. Atlanta has a huge airport with alot of business, that's forsure. It's a nice airport also cause there are alot of different types of aircraft there. Delta's fleet is huge and usually you can see many different kinds of jets and planes there, which is groovy. The only drawback about Delta is that nasty ass new paint job they have on their planes, yuck lol. But other then that, Delta is an excellent airline. Delta kicks major butt down there in Atlanta, nice big hub there! The Braves baseball team, and also Delta Air Lines have quite a name for themselves in Atlanta.

I have been in ATL for about 10 years now and pretty much take DL for the nonstop service. (when applicable) As far as their customer service, well, that leaves MUCH to be desired and has greatly DETERIORATED over the last few years. When at all possible, I take UA and/or AA. (T Gates)

Yes, we do have the busiest airport in the world. (THIS RULES!) Above all I've ever seen here was during the 96' Summer Olympics. There was at least one airplane from each (most) of the representative countries! IL-62's to 707's to 744's. It was incredible!

GO BRAVES!
