Go Vs Easy Jet, Part 1.

Sun Feb 18, 2001 12:13 am

hi all,
well i just got back yesterday from a day trip to manchester(university interview). so me and my mum arrived at belfast at 7:30 for the 8:40 flight to Liverpool. plenty of easyjet desks so checkin wasnt a problem. i was carrying a really big art portfollio, and the girl at the desk offered to put it in the fragile hold herself. checkin was fast and the staff where friendly, although she didnt ask any of the security questions that they normaly do, that was worrying.
so we decided to go straigth to the gate, that as mistake number 1, we where in the smallest gate in belfast airport, and it had a full go flight to london, and 2 easyjet flights all leaving at a similar time. so it was packed to say the least. it was also worrying that we couldnt see anything out of the panoramic windows in the lounge, it was completly fog bound, yet the flights where on time!
so it cleared a bit and i saw a go( go exploring titles)733, bmi(old c\s)a321, airtours a320, and a ba(union c\s) bae146 and j41.our aircraft arrived at 8:20, and combined with the front and rear bording we boared shortly after at 8:35. the plane itself was in good condition inside, with grey seats with orange splashes. the legroom was no where near as good as bmi or ba, but still acceptable. we sat in row 20 after the wing. i must say that the wing was in bad shape, i have never seen one so dirty before, it also had loads of little dents and scratches on it. so we pushed back and taxied to the runway around 10minutes late. saw an aer lingus a330-300 landing from new york, it was an amazing sight. the aircraft was almost full so it rattled its way along the runway using alot of runway to get airbourne. anyway the flight itlself was realy fast, only 30mins, the fa`s gave out inflight mags with bar tarif to those who wanted them. otherwise the crew announcements where few and far between, i definatly didnt feel as welcome as other airlines.
so we landed in liverpool on time, the little 737 slammed into the ground bouncing several times. easyjet certainly know what the 737 is cabable of abuse wise!
picked up my portfolio at the aircraft steps, remined me of some undeveloped third world airport!
well we returned to the airport at 7 for the 9:05 flight home, that was my fault for planning the day badly. anyway the checkin staff where particularly rude and unhelpful in opening the desk early for us and actualy acused of of having the wrong checkin time(it was due to open before we arrived.) so we wandered through the shack that is liverpool ariport, dirty, old and badly planned. we noticed that the earlier flight to belfast hadnt left, we asked a memeber of staff it we could board it instead, she said it wasnt her flight lit a cigarette in the non smoking area and walked off! so we sat at the departures area waiting for the flight. saw several easy jet 733`s come and go, a manxe atp and a ryanair 732. after an hour of waiting i looked at the board, showing that our 9:05 flight was estimated at 10:30!!!! also the 8:55 flight to luton was no-where to be found, so at around 9:40 both flights had `go to departures` on the board. yet no word at all from easyjet, no staff to be found, very unhappy passengers. so finally at 10:20 we saw a pair of 733`s land and unload. it also appeared that the very last belfast flight of the night at 11:15 had been cancelled, it just disappeared after ours. so they called the plane at 10:30, made us go to the right gate, then we where forced to stand in a que for 15 minutes on the ramp leading to the outside doors, no expanation or nothing, they called the plane too soon and forced us to stand there like caged animals sorrounded by railings. it was horrible! so we borded at last, during the safety demo, the f\s stopped and told people off for talking! the aircraft was much newer with orange trim alone the overhead bins.
during the short flight, the crew did nothing, we landed and they thanked us for traveling with easy jet, that was it.

overall, easyjet were fairly cheap, i paid £90($140) for the 30minute return flight, ba to manchester cost £200.
but i felt they where too informal and the operation felt very lapse compared to bmi\ba. i would fly them again only if i couldnt get a cheaper fare with someone else.
lookout for a go report in 2 weeks time.

hope you liked it.

Nice report, shame about Easyjet!
Was this your first time on EZY? Well if it was then this is what all of there flights are like! Thats how they can afford to charge jack s**t for the tickets! Because they wouldn't know what service was if it came along and smaked them in the face. If your willing to pay the money you'll get the service! That's how airlines work.
ps- whats part2? Is it with GO? hope to see it soon.  Smile/happy/getting dizzy
