Just have a few minutes here, but in summary my trip last week on Midex was once again a pleasant experience.

Military travels took me and some co-workers to Atlanta for a conference. Checked in at the counter shortly after 3 p.m. March 6 for our 3:45 p.m. flight to Atlanta. About 30 minutes later, we boarded through D-45 and found my way to 23A on flight 107, one of Midex's new MD-80 aircraft (N805ME). My guess was about 75 percent of its 116 seats were filled. Light winds were out of the north, causing us to taxi to 1L, on which we took off just before 4 p.m.

On climb out we had a nice view of downtown Chicago, Megis and Midway. Lunch was a salad with grilled chicken breast, fruit, roll and some other goodies. My co-worker sitting next to me passed on her cookies, so I had her's as well for a total of four. Just what I need, but they were hot and tasty! Washed it all down with three glasses of wine. Overall flight was smooth and uneventful. The flight attendants were very prompt and friendly, which I noted on a critque in Midex's magazine. We landed about 6:40 p.m., 10 minutes ahead of time, on ATL's northern most runway, 26R I believe.

Since our walk and train ride to baggage was a hike, our luggage was waiting for us, already on the floor. A short ride on the shuttle over to the Westin Atlanta Airport and we were there. On the seventh floor looking west, I had a nice view of both arriving and departing aircraft. Of course most were Deltas sporting all three liveries. But did see a South African Airways 747-400 land about 10 in the morning and a departing Luthansa A340 leave about 4:30 in the afternoon. Nice stay in the hotel and toured CNN Saturday afternoon, via MERTA? All in all, Atlanta left me with a favorable impression.

Arrived two hours early for our 2:50 p.m. March 11 departure of flight 106. We went to the USO club to chat for a while, then had some Chinese fast food in the airport food court near the clock tower. Leaving out of D7, the DC-9-10 (N600ME) was completely full. We taxed to 26L and had no wait at all - just got to the end, turned around and off we went. Again this flight was fairly smooth, but did notice from my seat in 5A the aircraft's interior seemed to be showing its age. Which lead me to wonder what will be flying the route in a few years - 717 or an Airbus? (tend to think the airbus, but what do I know?)

Lunch was great for most people, but since I don't like seafood, the five pieces of shrimp went untouched. The rest of the meal included an actual half of pineapple sliced which was very good. The shirmp was on top of sliced oranges and grapefruit. Grapes and a roll, followed by chocolate chip cookies rounded out the tray. I asked the woman sitting next to me, a grandmother from Racine, if she wanted my shrimp. But she didn't. Don't think shrimp is something that gets passed around!

Chicago was covered in clouds, so missed that view. Ended up taked a right base to 7R and touched down right on time at 3:45 p.m. Deplaning at gate D-34, my wife and daughter were there to met me - a sight for sore eyes.
All in all a great trip and look forward to flying Midex soon.
