YUL-ATL-FLL-ATL-YUL

This was the beginning of my spring break, and what better way then to go south, and enjoy the heat in South Florida.

Upon my entrance into the Dorval transborder pier, most of the gates were occupied, with the sole exception of gate 23A belonging to Air Canada. At the pier, an American Airlines F100, 2 Air Canada DC9's, 3 Air Canada Crj's, 1 American Eagle Saab 340, 1 Continental Express EMb145 and my Delta Md88 were parked...Looking out on to the international pier, 2 Air Canada A330-300's, 1 Austrian Airlines A330-200, 1 Swissair A330-200, 1 KLM B747-300, and 1 CSA A310-300 were also parked...At the airport, everything was full except for the domestic section where only one Air Canada B767-200 was parked amongst the 10 gated domestic pier...this portion of Dorval's network in underserved...

Delta flight 933 to Atlanta, started boarding at 320pm, at gate 15. sitting in seat 23A besides Chris Vincelli (NOISE (user on airlines.net), we pushed back at 341pm, taxied straight to runway 6R, and rotated at around 349pm. This flight had 25 empty seats amongst the 142pax total capacity. A most unusual snack was being served, smoked meat sandwhiches with lettuce and cheese. No Delta specialty  Insane On this relatively bumpy flight, we were ordered under Pittsburgh control to fly from 37,000ft to 31,000ft were we would then land in Atlanta Hartsfield at 631pm on runway 8R...we parked at gate B08 and that was the end of that flight..nothing too special...

After walking to gate A12, and taking the annoying subway in this very crowded airport (ATL being the busiest airport in the world), boarding for DL323 had finally begun. Sitting in seat 41B on this beautiful aircraft, push back was done at 826pm, and we then proceeded to runway 9L, after being #8 for take-off..we reached the air at 855p...nothing special to report in terms of service. The usual snack (peanuts, chips, pretzels and a beverage). The on-board entertainment was quite good...remote control on the arm rests of the B767-400ER gave you control of what you wanted to hear, music or the on-board feature, Delta Horizon Spectrum (a combination of CNN and a sitcom)....it was a relatively bumpy but comfortable flight, we landed FLL runway 9L at 1013p, then parked at gate D5...the flight was completely over-booked..

The normal scheduled departure time was 445p for this flight, but due to air traffic delay in ATL  Yeah sure , the plane only landed FLL at 435pm...boarding commenced at 515p, and I sat on the window 35A. After taking much more time than anticipated, the L1011 backedout of gate D9 at 540pm, and luckily for those catching a connection in ATL, we took-off on runway 27R(only requiring a short taxi to the runway). This was an incredible flight. With the sun setting in the east, this flight over the florida everglades and into the heart of georgia was incredible smooth and beautiful. Heck, this plane was even more comfortable than the B767-400ER. After only an 1hr and 10 minutes, the flaps went down to 30degrees, the gears came down and this old L1011 had it's touchdown no later than 715pm on runway 8L..we parked at gate A28. An amazing ride, really did surprise the hell out of me  Big thumbs up !

After a quick run to the other extremity of concourse A (quite a long one), I arrived just in time for normal boarding, on this newly painted MD88...At gate A7, they were taking names for people willing to sacrifice their seat for other overbooked passengers..of course, their is some type of compensation for anybody willing to do so..Sitting in seat 20A, Delta 846 was delayed by over half an hour due to poor catering services  Confused . After out pushback, we taxied to runway 9R and took-off into the night, a windy but clear one. The flight was rather uneventful, with a dinner being served, chicken with macaroni and cheese. The landing in Montreal was extremely nerve-wrecking. As we were landing in a middle of a snowstorm, the clouds in which we descended in were thick and snowy. The lights, illuminated on the wings of the plane, showed strong snow squalls falling upon the rapidly descending plane. Not knowing where the heck we were at, the landing lights came on, flaps were completely set, and at about 300 feet from the runway, we escaped the clouds only to land on a snow covered 24L. The pilot had trouble stopping the plane (these American pilot  Big thumbs up ), so as the plane attempted to brake before the runway exit, the pilot jolted the plane several times, causing minor wiplash but that was alright I guess  Smokin cool . We arrived on the aeroquay at gate 32, walked into the usual Dorval packed Canadian customs, and waited over 20 minutes for my bag....

And if your still with me here, you should know that this was a tiring day of travelling  Sleepy

Thanks for reading,
Mark

God sounds like a dream trip to me. The L1011, 767-400, a sweet sounding landing in montreal, and a full dinner service on a 700 mile delta flight.
Thanks for the report  Smile/happy/getting dizzy
