Best HNL Service

Sat Apr 07, 2001 2:49 pm

This June, I will be travelling from SFO-HNL with a school group. Because of the circumstances, I don't know what airline I will be flying on. I was hoping for ATA, but I may end up with something else. Can anyone give any info on which has the better service, airplanes, etc. on SFO-HNL?

I found out that our group is taking Hawaiian Airlines.
It's not an L-1011, but it is still a DC-10; a great bird.

I am glad to hear that your group is flying Hawaiian Airlines. they are the best choice to Hawaii I just got back from Honolulu and I always fly Hawaiian Airlines. The DC-10's are great!!! Hawaiian did fly L-1011's and I enjoyed those planes alot. great time to fly the DC-10's as Hawaiian Airlines will be replaceing them with 767's soon.

Aloha!!

Personally, I think it is stupid for to use narrow bodies for california to hawaii. It's a pretty long flight, and its all over water, to use a 757 or 737 I think its pretty dumb.

What about flying to Hawaii on a narrowbody is dumb? Two engines are two engines, if you don't mind a 777 or 767 then an 757 or 737 is no different. And if you don't like the narrow fuselage, then what about transcontinental flights? Last month I flew from San Diego to Washington-Dulles on an A320, return on an A319. The fact that the plane only had one aisle didn't bother me one bit. That flight is only about an hour shorter than west coast-Hawaii.

Relax Hawaiian. Its just my opinion because narrow-bodied airplane seats are more cramped than wide-body seats (generally). And dont correct me on that because I know that as a fact. I flew Uniteds 757 to ORD many times, and it is pretty narrow seats, but two years ago I flew a UAL DC-10 from DTW to ORD, and the coach seats were roomier. For a flight over any waters, they should use wide-bodies, (or "twin-aisle" for the airbus Big grin)

I've never flown the route, but personally, I'd take AA, especialyl if you're in coach. I live their 767 service, with the added legroom, which I take back and forth JFK-LAX. It's really very civilzed, the f/as are really friendly, the 767 is roomy without feeling overwhelming, and the 2-3-2 configuration is super. Few middle seats.
