DL 67, ZRH-ATL-MIA Business Elite

Fri Apr 13, 2001 8:45 am

This was our spring vacation trip to visit relatives in the US.

08 Apr ZRH-ATL DL 67 Ship 190

We arrived at the airport about one hour before departure. The DL check-in desk was deserted. All 8 counters were free. So we thought that the plane would be nearly empty but it was completely full but 2 seats in Biz E. Anyways while we checked in we were asked the usual questions. Out check-in took about 25 mins.
After that we went straight to the boarding gate. The plane was a new colors 767.
During i noticed that all FAs wore the new uniform. I think it's a huge improvement over the previous one. My seat was a window on the right side in the last row of Biz Elite. My parents had two window seats in row 2.I thought that the seat was a little narrow but the huge pitch compensated for that. Also it is very comfortable. As soon as we sat down the purser came and introduced herself and the crew. Her name was Debra.
We pushed back at 13:25 which was right on time. We taxied to the runway behind a Singapore Airlines 747.

Soon after T/O the meal service commenced. We were served by Marilyn. She spoke perfect German. There were 4 choices. Veal, Tuna, Pasta or Soup. I had the pasta which was very good. The best i've ever eaten inflight. After the meal they served ice cream sundaes and hot cookies. I liked everything very much.

After they had finished the meal service we were told to put down the shades to allow for better viewing of the movie. I watched "Das Gluecksprinzip" and "Was Frauen wollen" on my PTV. I was pleasantly surprised that the films were also available in German.
I found the Games on the PTV system to be crap. Only the trivia was interesting.

Before descent to ATL we were served a very tasty sandwich and hot cookies again. Debra came to me and my brothers seat again and thanked us for choosing Delta with a handshake. I found that very nice!!

ATL-MIA 08 Apr B 767-200

This flight wasnt very interesting. DLs domestic F is nothing special. Only beverage service on a 1hr 20 mins flight.

----------------------------------------------------
I give the ZRH-ATL flight a 10/10. DL Business Elite has to be one of the best Biz Class products. I have flown SR biz class many times and DL was alot better. I never expected them to be that good.

Hope you liked it!!

DL 67, ZRH-ATL-MIA Business Elite

Hey,

I don't think your comparsion with Swissair C Class is fair! Swissair operates a 3 Class Product while Delta a 2 Class Product!

Delta actaully advertises Business Elite has a First Class at Business Class prices! Your experience sounded way way less good than what one would expect out of Swissair First Class.

-- What was the comfort pack like?
-- What were the serving procedures, hence from trolleys or from the galley?
-- Just out of interest, what kind of pasta was it. I am just wondering.

Fly Swissairt First, then come and report back to us and compare the 2 products. I am not bashing DL Business Elite, I flew it once SFO-JFK (Domestic Business Elite which is the normal domestic F food with the Business Elite seats. It is used on the flagship routes). I had a great experience but your comparsion is just not fair. Enough said!

Jeremiah Teahan

Good Trip Report . WOW from what I heard the BizElite is very good especially on International Flights. The f/A's apparently offer very nice and personalized service. Delta's pasta is very good because I have eaten some of their pasta and I found it to be very tasty.

Hey Jer

I am sure that DL Biz Elite isnt as good as SR First class. My comparison was based purely on price. DL biz and SR biz cost about the same. So i think that it is fair to compare the two products!

To your Q's:

-- What was the comfort pack like?
The comfort pack is a metal box with a pic of an old DL plane. Same contents as the SR amenity kit.
-- What were the serving procedures, hence from trolleys or from the galley?
Everything was served from the galley. No trolleys.
-- Just out of interest, what kind of pasta was it. I am just wondering.
It was the chef's pasta of the day accompanied by mixed Vegetables. You could say if you want Chicken or Scallops in it. It was very tasty!!

Regards,
Tom

Sounds like you had a great flight. When I flew Biz Elite a couple of months ago I was not impressed. The food was horrible and the crew were not like yours one bit. They never smiled and after the meal disappeared until the next meal before landing. The PTV were not that impressive. I agree about the seat being too narrow. I still prefer Swissair's Business over Deltas. I find UA, AA and CO far better than Delta on International flights especially CO's BusinessFirst. It will beat Delta anyday. Just my oppinions.Glad you had a good experience on DL.

Is it only my hunger, or are only one meal and a sandwich a little bit less than expected on a biz class for a ZRH-ATL flight?

Great report

Hey Tom,

Thanks for your reply!  Smile

I expected the pasta to be the vegetarian option (like UA). Was the soup vegetarian?

About the price difference. The only reason the prices are close to being the same is because you got a discount ticket. If you head to the Delta site, find a full fare un-restricted ticket, you will find fares much closer if not higher than the Swissair F Class. BTW, make sure they are starting in Europe since as you know, tickets starting in the US are more expensive.

Gerardo it is not only your hunger, I agree with you about the meals. If you fly Swissair business, the 2nd meal is allways warm. Sandwiches and Pot Noodles are availible in the galley at anytime. Here is the light meal from my Zurich-Johannesburg flight:

LIGHT MEAL

Pasta salad featuring spaghetti, prawns and black soyabeans accented by Dill.

OR

Appenzell cheese salad served with celery, apples and pomegranates.

FOLLOWED BY

Gratin of green asparagus and chanterelle mushrooms.

Assorted bread rolls with butter.

DESERT:

Fresh oranges with dates.

Coffee – Tea – Herbal teas

Seems slightly better than just a sandwich  Smile!

Teahan:
You are wrong. A full fare Biz Elite starting in ZRH costs the same as an SR full fare about 4500 SFR.

There was a second light meal availble but i chose the sandwich.
I cant type up the whole menu as my connection is very expensive at the moment.

Hey,

Avion, I look forward to a link seeing that SFR4500 full fare.

This is just an idea, ever thought of typing whatever you have to type in MS Works/Notepad/something like that and then copy and paste it here.

Gee, you guys on here must be some pretty "hungry" people. what do you expect on a 8 1/2 hour flight. First you get your nuts, salad, breads, appetizer, more breads, entree, cheeses, fruits, cookies, then an ice cream sundae. Okay these meals are extremely large; even for people with the biggest appetites. When you are finally done with this very large first meal you will have like 5 hours left on an atlanta flight, and three on a JFK flight. So say then you sleep for a couple hours, and will have only a little while left. Also there will be a cart up in the front with plenty of breads and cookies, drinks and a whole crap load of other stuff. Then you get a sandwich, or something else along with a salad, breads, and cookies. Which are all usually quite large. Then after a little while you land. So come on guys do you really think delta ought to serve two full meals on a flight like that? BTW on my swissair flight from Atl-Zrh we got a salad, then got everything else served on a tray which were pretty meager portions. Then we got creme bulee, then some wonderful swiss chocolates. The meal as a whole was pretty filling; at least for me. Im just 5'10, 150Lbs, and I know the majority of passengers flying in biz will be larger. But the breakfast which was served before landing was really sad. Some cold meats. That just sucked. Well anyway didnt mean to bash swissair. I just have one experience to judge them that was like 9 months ago, and have heard that they have vastly improved. I look forward to trying them again to reverse my opinion so i dont feel as negative about them as i do now. Well anyway glad you enjoyed your experience, and hope you fly with us soon, again.

Hey,

Delta15, Swissair introduced a new meal concept.

BTW, I am definitely no Delta basher. I love Delta and had some great flights with them!

What really annoys me is when people compare Business Elite to other airline's Business Classes. Delta advertises Business Elite as a First Class.

A fair comparison should compare two products with the same price. So, How much is the normal Biz elite price on DL?

BTW, Is there also a "normal" Biz-class on DL?

And as for the hunger: On a 8 hrs. flight I would expect 1 hot meal and one cold meal on eco class. On biz class I would expect 2 warm meals.

Hey,

I priced 2 flights. One Delta and one Swissair ZRH-ATL going on June the 14th and returning on June the 21st. I choose Business unrestriced in both cases:

Delta:

Delta 67 Business (J) Zurich (ZRH) 14 Jun 01 125P Atlanta (ATL) 14 Jun 01 530P 0
Delta 66 Business (J) Atlanta (ATL) 21 Jun 01 830P Zurich (ZRH) 22 Jun 01 1130A 0

Price per passenger: 6155.50 CHF

Swissair:

SR120 ZURICH ATLANTA / WILLIAM B. HARTSFIELD 14-Jun 10:00 14-Jun 14:00 FA CA YA

SR121 ATLANTA / WILLIAM B. HARTSFIELD 21-Jun 17:00 22-Jun 07:55 FA CA YA

Price per passenger: 4500 CHF

These are both the full unrestricted fares!

Gerardo, Delta has no "normal" business class. They operate a 2 class service whish is Domestic F Class and economy on domestic routes and Business Elite and economy class on international long-haul routes.

Kind Regards,
Jeremiah Teahan

Wery nice trip report. Delta's F class travelling Domestic isn't very nice for the price, I agree with you on that. But International, BizElite is the way to go. More "BANG" for your buck !

Hey,

Delta15, I picked the same flights on the same day but in first class:

Swissair First Class:

SR120 ZURICH ATLANTA / WILLIAM B. HARTSFIELD 14-Jun 10:00 14-Jun 14:00 FA CA YA

SR121 ATLANTA / WILLIAM B. HARTSFIELD ZURICH 21-Jun 17:00 22-Jun 07:55 FA CA YA

Price per passenger: 10397.00 CHF

Well I am flying Shannon-Dublin-Zurich-Geneva (Switzerland) this morning. Well I am leaving home in 3 hours time, before catching the Aer Lingus A330 to Dublin at 09:15 AM. I will most probably be returning via Brussels. Geneva-Brussels-Dublin-Shannon next Sunday.
