That Much Traffic?

Sat May 12, 2001 10:47 pm

I've noticed that NW fly five times a day AMS-DTW, using their D10's and 744's. Is there all that much traffic on that route? It's a funny city-pair. Except for NYC (all carriers included), I don't see nearly as many flights to any other North American gateway from AMS, or indeed to any other intercontinental destination for that matter. Is there a particular reason for this?

As ever,

Well, I imagine that they are using DTW to funnel people from the US to Europe, and then AMS to funnel them through to other cities and destinations further on.

The only reason is that AMS is KLM's hub. Since KLM and NW are partners it's easy to understand why the traffic is so big. Without the alliance the flight would probably be onece daily.
