BA 777 What To Expect?

Mon May 28, 2001 11:33 pm

I am travelling in July on a British Airways 777 aircraft to Boston, and I'd like to know how exactly the 777 is like to fly in as a pax, (not food or comfort wise) but aircraft capabilities on landing and takeoff (engine start noise) etc.
Thanks

It's great! Good power at take off and very quiet with the most graceful landing since the VC10. Enjoy!

The Boeing 777 is such a great airplane. You will love the spacious interior and the start as well the landing. The start is just great. I love this plane very much, but I have only flown on AA and Malaysian Airlines, never with BA, but anyway the airplane is just great.
Greetings

I'm flying to Boston, there is a 747-400 leaving LHR to Boston as well, does the 747-400 really thrill more? I heard that on the 777 the reverse thrust is very quiet, this disappoints me I think. Can anyone say the 747-400 is has a loud reverse thrust?

February this year i went LGW-ANU (Antigua). The runway there is very short and as soon as we put the main gear on the ground, the a/c was put into reverse. The GE90s performed very well and we came to a stop pretty soon after. The return leg was different, we took off at midnight and we were on an a/c that had slightly less thrust but it still felt a rocket! Whats the flight number?

Some pics i found of the a/c:

I'll make the photos i took before the flight look better and then i'll try and upload them to a.net!

Have a nice time,

Flight Number: BA213 to Boston I think....
Some people say the reverse is very quiet, is it louder than a 747-400's?

Well, I unexpectedly ended up on a BA 777 earlier this year, G-YMMH when flying LHR-Chicago (I was hoping to fly LHR-San Francisco!!)

Any way, it was the finest airliner I have ever been in, so hope thats a good enough vote of confidence.

Yes the 777 is quiet. I've flown on Thai 773 from Auckland - Sydney (lots of power from the Trents on takeoff because the plane was light - 3 hour flight). I found the landing quiet (after one missed approach), the reverse sound seems less noisy than other planes I've flown (including 747).

Hi!

I'm still waiting to confirm my flight from LHR to YYZ with the BA 777, that reminds me that in 1998 I flew from LHR to BOS with BA, but.... at that time I still got the good old BA 747-200 Classic with RR engines, can you imagine, in 3 years and this plane is gonne, nostaligic moments indeed, registration of that great moment? Here it goes:

1998/08/02 - 747-200 - G-BDXF ( old livery )
Movie - Lost in Space
Menu - Great!!! Salmon, ice cream and sandwishs just before we landed!!!

The landing path to Boston was ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC!!! After we landed we just parked side-by-side with a Swissair 747-300.... yes they're gonne too, really nostalgic moments now!!!
