CRJ200 From BNE/MKY

Hi All,

Had my first flt. in the CRJ200 week before last. I was not impressed. This was Kendell A/L (KD) from BNE/MKY which they took over fom AN who used BAe146's.

I found the CRJ200 to be extremely cramped... very narrow seats, close pitch and the overhead luggage bins are so low, that you really have to crouch down & double over to get in or out of the window seats.

I can't understand how come this A/C is so popular in the US & Europe.

The day after, leaving Mackay for Townsville & Cairns, it was a great relief to fly on board the humble old EMB120 Brasilia. Much more comfortable.

Anybody else got similar thoughts on the CRJ200 - or for that matter the Embraer Regional Jet (which I have not flown)?

Obviously as my user name suggests I have a leaning towards the ERJ. I have flown on the Kendell CRJ as well and found it much as you said though I thought the seats were wide enough but I'm quite small. The ERJ on paper and in reality is even narrower! However with some cleaver design they manage to make it feel bigger inside than a CRJ. One thing is the window size which lets in more light in the ERJ. And while the ERJ has 1-2 seating only the 2-side has an overhead bin so there appears to be more head room though there probably isn't, it just feels roomier.
As to the popularity it has to do with the speed/capacity formula. For example if you had regular capacity of 40 pax between two cities it would be unwise to use a larger jet like the 146, but you wouldn't want to slow the trip down by using a prop either. So the Regional jets fill a niche and with the amount of orders placed for the little jets it's amazing no one did it sooner.
I remember when the DC-3 was new!

The Kendell CRJs on Tasmanian services are proving so unpopular with passengers that it was the first route QantasLink 717s started on. The 717, even in Impulse's 117 seat configuration, is much more comfortable.
